Dear ISD Parents,

Last night we held our annual Math Night and it was a huge success!  We had 155 students participate - a record number!  While many students (and their parents) were engaging in the math games that support math concepts and skills, some were exploring math websites in our computer lab. (Math website information will be posted on our website for all to access.)  There was a contagious excitement watching students shift from one math station to the next to tackle the next number challenge.  Thank you to Mrs. Cleary, Mrs. Bruning-Wulff and Mrs. Aysseh who worked with our own Mrs. Macri in setting the evening up.  Also, thank you to the other teachers who helped manage the grade level stations and computer lab.  They included Mrs. Freeda, Mrs. Garofalo,

Mrs. McAuley, Ms. Assarpour, Mrs. Murray and Mr. Harris.

It won't exactly be Black Friday shopping but our school store is scheduled to open on Monday under Mr. Stewart's supervision.  There will be a variety of school-related items for sale and purchases will be managed by our older students who will get to apply and practice their math skills.  Look for more details about hours in the near future as we finalize the schedule.

Parents are invited to come in and take a form of the state test our grade 3-5 students will be taking in the spring.  A version of the test, known as the SBAC, is available and we have scheduled a session on Tuesday, November 26th at 2:00 in the computer lab for parents to come in and experience the kind of test questions your children will be asked to complete.  You may bring your own laptop if you wish to.  Mrs. Madoff and I will facilitate the session.  The teachers and I have taken this version, which suffice to say, is eye-opening and very different than the CMT.

Lastly, our Fall Book Fair will be held next week for two days.  Please come do some holiday shopping and support our school.

Sincerely, Terry Ricci

BAKE SALE FOR THE PHILIPPINES

Bake Sale illustrationDear ISD Community, several former ISD students will be hosting a bake sale this Saturday in the front of the Starbucks on the Avenue between 10:30am and 12:30pm benefitting the victims of those impacted by the storms in the Philippines. Luis Quisumbing (an ISD Alumni) and family come from the Philippines and their family fortunately had escaped any harm. However, they wish to support their homeland and hope to see as many of you at this bake sale as possible. So please try to stop by not only for the Quisumbings, but for all the families impacted by the storm. Thank you!

Traveling Art Program - Docents Needed

This town-wide program and its volunteer docents present portfolios of well-known art reproductions to the students. The K-5 program encourages the children to think deeper thoughts, verbalize what they see, and share how they feel about the art. The program is looking for more volunteer docents who will be trained and present during the school year at different elementary schools. Although helpful, no prior art or teaching background is necessary. The schedule is flexible. Please contact the program facilitator, Patrice Anibal: pdanibal@gmail.com
