Message from our Principal

Dear ISD Parents,

I have received a few questions related to the challenge the schools are facing regarding overcrowding and racial imbalance. There is a lot of information/data to digest and I would suggest taking a little time to review it on the website. The four options that are included in the recommendations are broad strokes/examples and the final decision, which will be made in the fall, could include a combination of several of them. In the meantime, I believe investing in the process by attending meetings and being informed would be worth your time. I would caution you however to be aware of the rampant rumors and misinformation floating around.

I want to congratulate our second grade students on the results they achieved on the Spring DRP Standardized Reading test they were administered last month. These results were the highest we have had on this particular standardized test in second grade. Ninety-five percent (95%) of all the grade two students scored at the Mastery level, with 79% of them scoring in the Advanced level. Congratulations to our students who we are very proud of, and of course, to Mrs. Tedla, Mrs. McAuley, Mrs. Martin and the other teachers who contributed to their success. As a school, we have committed much time and many resources to strengthening the instruction of reading through our School Improvement Goals and Action Plans so it is rewarding to see our students reaping the benefits.

As summer vacation fast approaches, I want to remind you to be sure your children continue their learning momentum by engaging in some "academic activities" in between summer plans. This can be done by reading, especially non-fiction books, writing in journals and using IXL for math review.

This week your children have engaged in student-led conferences in a variety of ways. This is an opportunity for students, regardless of grade level, to sit with a parent with the goal of reviewing their progress from this school year. I hope it was a rewarding time for all involved.

Sincerely,

Terry Ricci

END OF YEAR RECAP

Dear ISD PTA Families,

Thank you for an incredible year and the numerous volunteer hours & generous donations gifted to our school and the children at ISD. Our combined resources provided educational enrichment opportunities in the areas of math, science, writing, wellness, language arts, and much more.

Without the involvement of parents & interest in the school many programs and events would not take place. Thank you for continuing to support our school & the students. Again this year our volunteers tirelessly worked to improve  communications, family involvement, facilities, enrichment programs, educational supplementation and community outreach. Please click here to read more about ISD and what we invested our time and money in this year and how we as a community worked together to create this home away from home for all students at ISD.

ISDGLOBE

Sincerely,

Vera & Renee

SUMMER SKILLS REVIEW BOOKS

You may order Summer Skills Review Books for math, language arts, keyboarding, Spanish, and French language skills. These are by no means required: however, you might wish to use them to maintain your child's skill in these areas over the summer. Since they are review material, you will want to order the book for the grade level your child is leaving. If you have questions about the appropriate level please ask your child's classroom teacher. Sample copies of the books as well as order forms are available in the office; order form is also below. Contact Emma Eschricht with questions.
