Message from our Principal

Dear ISD Parents,

Our second and third graders, along with other students from the Greenwich schools, attended a concert given by the Greenwich Symphony this week.  The students came back very excited about their field trip.  In conversations I had with several of them, they really enjoyed the musical adventure, which for many students was a first time experience to attend a concert.  It serves as a good reminder that as educators and parents, we need to constantly be mindful that learning, whether the arts or academics, is vital in the development of the whole child.

This was certainly evident in the students who were recognized at this week's Community Service Awards ceremony.  It was inspirational to hear of what some of the young people in Greenwich are accomplishing by turning their passions into helping others.  They serve as a wonderful example to the younger students, who represented all the elementary schools.  Our own grade 5 student representative, Jessica Marzullo, I am certain will follow in their footsteps.

If you have not signed up for one of the Science Nights on either Tuesday, 4/9, or Thursday, 4/11, please consider doing so.  Students, accompanied by parents, will have the opportunity to have a hands-on experience seeing science concepts come to life right before their eyes.  Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this event.

The PTA is also sponsoring an author visit to ISD for our fourth and fifth graders later on this month.  The author, Beverly Patt, has written the book, Best Friends Forever, A World War II Scrapbook.  This book is the complement for younger audiences to the book chosen by the town as part of Greenwich Reads.  Several schools have invited Ms. Patt to discuss her book and the writing process involved.  Fourth and fifth grade students will have the opportunity to preview the book or hear it read aloud in school in preparation for the author's visit.

Have a good week.

Sincerely,

Terry Ricci
