Message from our Principal

Dear ISD Parents,

Community service is an integral part of the Greenwich Public Schools and as such, is recognized annually at a special ceremony.  The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd from 5-6:30 pm at Parkway School.  Individual students from the three middle schools and five high school houses will be honored for their contributions above and beyond what is required, in giving back to our community and beyond.  Elementary schools will be recognized for their involvement and participation in events and activities that benefited charitable agencies and other local groups. Some of the ones we have worked with this year at ISD were HALO (Helping and Loving Orphans), the Leukemia Society, Juvenile Diabetes, Neighbor to Neighbor and others.  A fifth grader is chosen to represent our school and this year, I am happy to announce that Jessica Marzullo will be representing ISD at the ceremony.  She certainly embodies the characteristics we look for in honoring these students and will represent our school well.  The event is a wonderful acknowledgment of what our schools and individual students do throughout the year to help others and has become a positive tradition in the community.

As of this date, the last day of school is Monday, June 24th.  (At this time it has not been announced if it is a full day or an early dismissal day.)  The grade five Moving Up Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 21st at 1:00 and will be held in the media center.  For planning purposes, fifth grade students may invite up to 3 visitors for the ceremony in order to meet capacity limits for the space.

The lottery was held recently to determine who will be offered slots for ISD's available spaces in the 13-14 school year.   We continue to have a lot of interest in our school as there were 152 applications including siblings. At this time, 19 families were offered spaces in kindergarten,  2 in grade one, 5 in grade two, 1 in grade three, 5 in grade four and 4 in grade five.  Historically, there is movement that occurs between this time period and the beginning of the new school year so I will expect to be offering additional spaces.  If you know that your child will not be returning to ISD in the fall, please let me know so I may factor this information into the process.

Sincerely,

Terry Ricci

CHARACTER CORNER

The Character Corner would like to thank the following students and families for their kindness and charitable acts over the past couple of  months.

John R. and family for their generous support of HALO by donating funds earned by recycling cans and bottles. John R. and family, we truly cannot thank you enough for all your support.

An enormous thank you to the Schaffer family (a former family of ISD) for their generous donation to HALO. We are truly touched by your donation and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Chris K. and family for dedicating their time to help those in need at Breezy Point after Hurricane Sandy. Because of their generous act, they helped those in need at a time the residence of Breezy Point need support and love the most. We are so proud of you!!

Nithya and Divya S. recently helped put together a fundraiser for a nonprofit in India (a cause very dear to their family), which promotes preschool education for underprivileged children.  Along with a friend they put together a music concert which raised enough money to send 18 children to preschool in India for 1 year. What incredible news, girls! Keep up the great work. We are so proud of you both.

Kai D. for asking for donations to World Vision in lieu of birthday gifts. Because of Kai's generous act soccer balls and mosquito nets were donated to children in need. You are amazing Kai. Keep up the wonderful work.

Kate and Alex M. for donating books to an ISD classroom for younger students to read. Thank you for your generous act.

Catherine and Patrick O. and Family for donating special treats to the staff on St. Patrick's Day. Your generosity and kindness filled our hearts and our tummies. Thank you!

Keep up the incredible work, and always remember,

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
