NEWS FROM THE MUSIC ROOM

Here is one of the best deals in town for a

summer music program!

Read on if you are interested in having your child make music over the summer.

Every summer for the past 76 years, the town of Greenwich holds the summer music and art camp at Greenwich High School.  This program is open to students who have completed 3rd grade all the way up to 8th grade. It usually runs for 5 weeks during July from Monday-Friday from 9 am - 12pm and it's affordable.  Last year's rate for the entire 5 weeks was $225.

Students will get to play their instrument about 2 hours a day and perform in weekly concerts with a final concert and party at the end of the camp.  You don't have to attend all 5 weeks to be in the program.  Some students attend for 1, 2, 3, 4 or all 5 weeks.  I'm not sure if the town prorates the amount of time you can attend the camp. I've sent many students to this camp and many have benefited from being a part of this fun musical experience.  I encourage all of you to consider it for this summer.

There are two ensembles for band:

Junior Band (Mr. Hohmeister (EMS) - conductor): Must be in 4rd grade or higher. Recommended for students who have completed at least 1 year of

instruction with a private teacher or in the public school program.  This ensemble is also recommended for students who have played for 2 or 3 years.

Senior Band (conductor - TBD): recommended for students who are proficient note readers and are comfortable playing in key signatures up to three flats and two sharps.  Typically, students who have been playing their instrument regularly for at least 3 school years are better suited for this group. Participation in this group will be at the discretion of each conductor from Junior Band and Senior Band.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Michael Strange, Band Director

ALP STUDENT IDENTIFICATION

The District process for identifying students for placement in the 2013-2014 Advanced Learning Program (ALP) has begun. The ALP program seeks to identify students who excel two grade levels above their current grade, demonstrate a strong motivation and love for learning, as well as perseverance when faced with challenging assignments.  If you would like your child evaluated for the (ALP) program, you may nominate your child by completing a Parent Nomination form available at your school office and on the ALP website.

All nomination forms must be returned to your school office NO later than March 27, 2013.
