Dear ISD Parents,
This week saw our first Emergency Early Dismissal because of the weather. The process went smoothly for the most part but we are tweaking aspects of it. The goal, of course, is to be sure that every student arrives at their destination safely. Thank you to all the "Emergency Parents" who collected information from each of their classrooms. It helps us significantly to receive 18 lists with information regarding each students' dismissal plan versus receiving over 300 phone calls. The one thing I ask of all parents is to try not to change plans, if possible, after they have been established as it causes confusion.
Keeping on a similar theme, the winter period brings a significant increase in students being driven to school or picked up in the afternoon. As a result, I have received feedback from our neighbors on Florence Road who are upset at having their driveways blocked. In addition, cars have parked on both sides of the road resulting in buses not being able to pass through. Obviously, this is a huge safety issue, as that means emergency vehicles cannot pass through as well. Neighbors have shared they will call the police if this happens again, so please be aware of this situation. It is best to park further away and walk to the school, if necessary.
In the morning, students should exit cars immediately upon stopping in the green cone area (they do not need to be right in front of the school door). As drivers approach the school, students should gather their belongings so they are ready to leave the car. These little steps really help keep the traffic moving which benefits everyone. We have reminded students that, in the afternoon, they should be looking for their car anywhere along the green cones and proceed quickly. Please reinforce this message at home as well. It is appreciated.
Today saw the celebration of our January reading campaign which was a dance party in the gymnasium at the end of the day. Our students read over 2013 books during the month which generated a lot of excitement. Let's keep the momentum going!
Thank you, Terry Ricci
