Dear ISD Parents,
Please save the date of Tuesday, February 26th, when Dr. William McKersie, Superintendent of Schools, will be our guest speaker per an invitation from the ISD PTA. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm in the media center. Dr. McKersie will address questions he receives ahead of time, regarding issues or topics you would like to have more information on, or would like more detail on. Please submit questions to the ISD PTA at isdpta.ct@gmail.com . This is a great opportunity to hear his thoughts and vision of our schools so please make every effort to attend if you can.
Several parents have asked about outdoor recess on cold, winter days. As you know, this week, outdoor recess was canceled for two days given the extreme temperatures. On the other two days, outdoor recess was abbreviated. As an advocate of giving the students any opportunity to go outside and run around and play, canceling recess is a difficult decision. However, when we are dealing with single digit temperatures plus wind chill factors, it becomes a safety issue. Please be sure students have the proper articles of clothing, ideally, with their names on them.
Last fall after Hurricane Sandy, the third graders led the school in a campaign to raise funds that were donated to the American Red Cross. I received a lovely letter from the organization this week thanking us for our gift of $2,332 which our students raised by doing chores at home. It was a great example of our students "taking action" to help others. As always, thank you for your role in this project and your ongoing support. Stay warm.
Sincerely,
Terry Ricci |

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE | |
Parents are being reminded that during this flu season it is important to continue to remind all family members of the importance of covering up coughs and sneezes. In addition, washing one's hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after using the bathroom, having contact with anyone that is ill, before preparing any meal, and before eating food is also very important in controlling the spread of germs.
When a child is called in ill or out of school for the day, please indicate if your child has a fever, what the temperature of the fever is and any other additional symptoms. This is very important information due to flu tracking being conducted. The numbers are what is reported and not any other specific information, which would identify a specific child.
Please refer to the Greenwich Public Schools "Guidelines For Childhood Illnesses" as a guide in determining if your child needs to be kept home. Parents can also call me directly at 203-698-6056 or 203-637-3800.
Thank you all for your cooperation,

BOX TOPS - Contest Ends Tuesday, February 19 | |
Thank you to all those who have been bringing in the "Box Tops for Education" coupons you have been collecting for our school. Every dime counts, so please bring them in, even if you just have a few.
There is a special collections box, in the shape of a schoolhouse, in the corridor, opposite the Main office. Please place the properly cut Box Tops in a sealed envelope or baggie with your child's name and class clearly written outside.
Right now the Box Tops contest is still going strong, but it will officially end Tuesday, February 19th at the end of the school day. Bring in your Box Tops by then and we will see which class collected the most Box Tops and they will have a special class celebration.
