Dear ISD Parents,
Our lockdown drill went smoothly this week and all of us learned from the activity. Hopefully, we will never have to put this knowledge to use. The police, both uniformed and non-uniformed, continue to be present in the mornings at school and I have noticed increased police patrolling around the campus throughout the day. Going forward, members of the police dept. will conduct visits to the school to become familiar with the building and our routines.
On Wed. afternoon, the staff participated in a professional development session with me on the subject of the Common Core Standards, specifically those related to literacy. These standards are to be fully implemented by the 2014-15 school year. Although the Greenwich Public Schools' academic curriculum already includes many of these standards, the actual teaching of them will constitute dramatic changes in how they are delivered. It is a learning process for all of us and we are well on our way toward being prepared.
On Tues., 1/15, the fourth grade will hold their annual art show where individual works of art will be on display. The students and teachers are proud of what they will be displaying and all are invited. Math Night is scheduled for 6:00 Thurs., 1/17. All families are invited to come and participate in the various games used in class to support and reinforce math concepts and skills. Teachers will be on hand to instruct and guide everyone along.
The week also includes a magnet school information session I will hold for prospective students and families. If you know of someone who is interested in applying to our school, please let them know of this session which will be held Thursday morning, 1/17, at 9:00. Applications will be available on line starting Mon., Jan. 14th. If you are currently a magnet family and have an incoming kindergartner or a child in another grade level, you will need to fill out an application for that child. (Siblings have first priority in the lottery process.) As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely, Terry Ricci |

4th Grade Art Show! | |
Tuesday, January 15 - 6:15-7:30p @ ISD
Dear Fourth Grade Parents:
The children have worked very hard to complete five connecting art projects with the Picasso Black and White exhibit that we visited in October at the Guggenheim Museum as part of the IB cultural art partnership. We hope you will join us as your child will guide you through each part of the exhibit and explain the process and thoughts behind each creative expression.
Please mark your calendars!
Creatively Yours,
Melissa Verdier |
