Next month all students at ISD will be taking part in a reading challenge. The school's goal is to read 2013 books in Jan uary, and the prize will be a school-wide Dance Party in the gym.
In January, your child will bring home bookmarkers to complete as they finish reading books with you at home. Books they are able to read to themselves or that you and their siblings read to them count.

MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
| |
To 3rd grade parents: Greenwich Public Schools mandates physical exams be completed and submitted for students in 3rd grade. Reminders have been mailed to those parents whose child's physical have not yet been received. Please make a copy to keep in your home health folders prior to submitting to me.
Thank you parents for following the Guidelines for Childhood Illnesses and notifying the school office when your child is out ill, have MD appointments, or will be late arriving to school. Please continue to relay what symptoms your child has when ill and the numerical number of any fever reported. This helps me in tracking illnesses.
Lice/nits issues in the schools are usually more prevalent after long school breaks. Parents are encouraged to continue taking a pro-active approach to this by checking their children at home as part of the regular home routine. Please let me know if any child is treated for lice/nits over the holiday break.
I want to take this time to wish all ISD students and their families a happy, healthy, and safe holiday celebration. We all have much to be thankful for in lieu of the recent tragedy.
See you in 2013!

Welcome to the Green Dragon!
| |
While Christmas is sometimes white, it generally isn't green. In fact, Americans produce about 1 million extra tons of trash around the holidays.
So to take pity on Mother Nature while celebrating Father Christmas, consider recycling your wrapping paper, or forgo it altogether. Try making your own wrapping paper and trimmings from newspapers, paper bags, art projects, clothes, dish towels, etc. And if you do buy new wrapping paper, go for the kind without glossy metallic coating, which makes it harder to recycle.
Have a happy and healthy holiday season!

Thank you to all those who have been bringing in the "Box Tops for Education" coupons you have been collecting for our school. Every dime counts, so please bring them in, even if you just have a few. There is a special collections box, in the shape of a schoolhouse, in the corridor, opposite the Main office. Please place the properly cut Box Tops in a sealed envelope or baggie with your child's name and class clearly written outside. The class which collects the most Box Tops by the end of February 2013 will be in store for a special class celebration.
