Dear ISD Parents and Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you safe and warm. From the information I have received, our ISD community was safe from physical injury, although several families have been displaced due to damage to their homes from the hurricane. Here at school, I want to commend the staff on warmly welcoming the students back to school and quickly immersing them into their academic routine. After students had the opportunity to "debrief" about their own personal experiences or others they knew of first thing Wed. morning, the teachers returned to our primary responsibilities, teaching and learning. I did hear feedback from teachers that many students read, wrote in journals, worked on math minutes and/or Study Island during the time they were home. I would encourage you to keep supporting that those habits to help reinforce the momentum that was lost during this period of no school. Although the expectation is the days will be made up, in many ways, it was a significant regression and we need to build up the stamina in our students. Monday, November 12th, Veteran's Day, is a regular school day per the decision of our Superintendent, Dr. McKersie. We will hold our annual Veteran's Day ceremony that morning at 10:00. Please feel free to join us if you can. As of this date, all dates are intact regarding conferences and report cards. If there are any changes, I will certainly apprise all of you of them. In the meantime, take care as we return to normalcy. It is great to be back!
