From the Executive Director
New Website Launch!
I am very excited to have finally launched our new website design, after almost a full year in development! You'll see things are looking pretty spiffy around here.
Admittedly, when I first started thinking about the idea of re-designing our entire website, I was a little bit hesitant because I knew what a large undertaking it would be. To completely re-design, re-create, and move everything over to a new design was a huge learning experience.
A few of my goals for the new website were to make it easier to navigate and more informative for users, allow for current project information to be posted online, and of course, to have a much more dynamic look. Most of all, I wanted to help our Chamber members and the general public get to know both the Chamber and Kent County better. If you take a look around the site I think you'll get a pretty good idea of who the Chamber is and what we do. Click here to take a look-see. www.kentchamber.org.
If you have any questions or comments, or need help, you can contact me at kentchamber@verizon.net - or leave me your thoughts or comments.
In addition to the new website, there have been, and will be quite a few events going on at the Chamber. On Thursday, April 24, Lori Willis owner of ELB, Inc. and her staff hosted a combined Business-After-Hours/Anniversary celebration at their facility on Flatland Road. ELB, Inc. has been in business for over 15 years and has expanded their facility and services to offer auto repair, including collision repair and mechanical services, Rhino-Pro Lining, and powder-coating. It was a great evening. Thank you Lori & staff!
On Friday, April 25, Bob and Lisa Jacob, owners of Chesapeake CNC Manufacturing hosted a Ribbon Cutting and Open House at their new facility at 25498 Mary Morris Road in Worton. Chesapeake CNC Manufacturing, the winner of the Chamber's 2011 Outstanding Business of the Year Award, is a company focusing on the precision manufacturing of small parts. After more than 10 years in business, this is the second expansion of their operations. Congratulations to Bob & Lisa!
Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 7 from 5:30 P.M., Eric Fitch and Jen Koch of Physically FITch will welcome Chamber members and the public for a Ribbon Cutting and Open House at their new and expanded facility at 6512 Church Hill Road in Chestertown. Stop out and see what they have to offer in the way of fitness, nutrition and health for everyone!
Brian Billick former head coach of the Baltimore Ravens will speak at 1:30 P.M. on May 14 at Kent County High School. Space is limited so reservations are required. To make your reservation, contact Linda Dawson by Wednesday, May 7th at ldawson@dixonvalve.com or 443-282-2029.
In conjunction with Kent Forward, the Chamber will hold our annual Education Breakfast at 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 20 at Heron Point. The breakfast will feature an update on our schools from Superintendent Dr. Karen Couch and a presentation on KCHS Career and Technology Education (CTE) by Principal Tracey Williams, Nicole Parr, CTE Director and KCHS students. Reservations are required. See flyer later in this Newsletter for details.
Lastly, a couple of reminders:
Work on the 2014-2015 Chamber Business Directory has begun. Requests for member information updates have been mailed to all Chamber members. To ensure your company's information is accurate, please return your completed form to the Chamber by May 16. Updates received after that date cannot be guaranteed to be included in the Directory. Please don't assume I know your changes. I need to your input!
If you have a non-advertisement, public service announcement or a news item about you or your business, send it to me and I will include it in one of my weekly NewsFlashes or monthly Newsletter for FREE! It's a great way to get your business noticed!
Enjoy this great weather!

SENIOR DISCOUNTS
IN KENT COUNTY
Approximately two years ago, the Kent County Chamber of Commerce and the Kent County Commission on Aging collaborated to develop a brochure listing discounts available for seniors. At that time over 90 local businesses participated. We realize that this document needs updating since several new businesses have opened and some have closed. In order to complete this task, we need your assistance!
Providing discounts for seniors, even if it is only one day a week, can increase your retail sales and will help our older residents financially.
If you would like to participate in this project, please send the following information by May 31, 2014 to:

Marilyn Evey Earns CMIP Designation
Marilyn Evey, Commercial Lines Supervisor at the Avon-Dixon Insurance Agency in Easton, MD, a member of Shore Bancshares community of companies, has been awarded Certified Marine Insurance Professional (CMIP) Designation. Ms. Evey is one of six recent award recipients, bringing the total of certified marine insurance professionals to 102 nationwide.
Ms. Evey earned this designation by attending four 1-1/2 day seminars consisting of "Insuring Waterfront Businesses, Insuring Vessel Owners & Operators, Insuring Marine Employees, and Recreational Marine Insurance," each followed by a rigorous examination. The CMIP Program is the nation's only Commercial Marine and Longshore professional insurance education program. The seminars are offered through LIG Educational & Consulting Services, in conjunction with the International Institute for Marine Insurance Studies.
Rich Trippe, President and CEO of the Avon-Dixon Insurance Agency, commends the graduates of this program for their dedication to professionalism and having a strong commitment to continuing marine insurance education, as evidenced by their having completed the CMIP program. "Marilyn is an invaluable resource to our team at Avon-Dixon and to our community. She is the only agent on the Eastern Shore that has received the CMIP designation and we encourage customers to call on her expertise," said Mr. Trippe.
