From the Executive Director
Greetings!
IT'S BACK TO BUSINESS!
The lazy, hazy days of summertime are coming to an end. So sad for those of us who "love" the long, slow, leisurely days of summer. It is now time to think about going back to school ...and getting back to business!
Back-to-school is usually about school supplies, but it can also be about office supplies and organization as well. There is always a sense of a new beginning that comes with this time of year with new pencils, planners, and a new season. In the same way as students do, you as a business owner can take advantage of that back-to-school wave of motivation at work!
This is the perfect time to get yourself organized. Rearrange your office so that it better fits your needs. Getting everything neat, tidy and organized will have you feeling refreshed to finish out the year. Where do you stand with accomplishing those goals you've set for yourself for the year? Store away old files and de-clutter your desk. There are great options on smart phones that will ensure you stay ahead with your calendar. Clean out your email and create easily found files for your important documents. Get re-energized!
Take advantage of Back-to-School ...and be ready to get Back to Business!
Loretta
Loretta M. Lodge

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.

Chamber Welcomes Two New Board Members
The Kent County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome two new members to our Board of Directors; Creg Fleetwood of FAM&M Insurance Agency in Chestertown and Larry Houck, owner of Houck's Menswear in Chestertown.
Creg Fleetwood has deep roots in Kent County and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, holds strong ties to the local community and understands the needs of local business owners. After graduating from Kent County High School, he went on to Washington College where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in American Studies in 2003. At Washington College, Creg was a member of the Men's Lacrosse team where he served as Captain as well as earning All American honors twice.
Creg began his insurance career with FAM&M as a new personal and commercial lines agent. Cincinnati Insurance Company offered Creg a seat in their Property & Casualty Underwriting School where he received extensive training on all aspects of property and casualty insurance. He is dedicated to building long term relationships of trust, professionalism and friendship.
In addition to his dedication to the success of FAM&M Insurance Agency, Creg also generously volunteers his time in the community. When Creg is not at work, you will likely find him outdoors with his wife and children. He enjoys playing lacrosse and golf as well as being on the Chester River with his close friends.
Larry Houck, owner of Houck's Menswear in Chestertown, has been a resident of Queen Anne's County for 34 years. He is well-versed in the clothing industry. Since 1978 Larry has served as a sales rep for Phillips Men's Shop, Palm Beach, Evan Picone, and Phillip/Van Heusen. He also spent 10 years with IMS, a fulfillment company as Inventory and Purchase Manager. Larry first opened his own company, Houck's Menswear in Centerville in March of 2012 and recently moved his store to Chestertown in May of this year.
Larry's goal is to provide high quality American made products to the Eastern Shore, Maryland and beyond for the young man and older gentlemen.
We welcome Creg and Larry as our newest Board members. They both bring a great deal of business expertise with them and we know they will be a great asset to the Chamber going forward.

Chamber to Honor Senate President Thomas V Mike Miller
The Maryland Chamber announced that Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr. will be the recipient of the Chamber's third annual Public Service Award. He will receive the award during a reception on November 4 at the Sheraton Annapolis Hotel.
