DCVB Partner Newsletter
|
We start this newsletter on a sad note this week. One of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism's Regional Tourism Specialists, Patrick Reinsma passed away unexpectedly last Thursday evening. Patrick was 44 years old and serviced the southwest area of the state. We have known and worked with Patrick over the years and his death is a profound loss for the department, tourism all over the state, as well as anyone who knew him. Please keep Patrick's family in your prayers.
We are less than a month out from the reopening of Hwy 42/57. The DOT has assured us that they are on target to open the highway before the July 4th weekend. Although the city of Sturgeon Bay has done a great job of moving traffic, especially during peak times, the delay has been frustrating for some of our visitors. I appreciate all of the phone calls and emails relaying concerns from the visitors on this construction but please assure them there is an end in sight. Once again, I believe that the silver lining is that many visitors are getting an opportunity to see the beautiful amenities Sturgeon Bay has to offer.
As many of you may know, Christine Salmon, the executive assistant at the bureau left at the end of April. We opted to reinvent that position as a hybrid position that does administrative work 15-20 % of the week and will work directly with Jon Jarosh as a Communication/PR manager for 80-85% of the week. We had many great applicants for the position and opted for what we believe is the very best candidate for the position. Her name is Jennifer Rogers. Jen is a proud CTA (she took the class in June of 2015) and has a degree from UWGB in communications with an emphasis in PR and electronic media. She has deep family roots in Door County and is very excited to join our team. Jen will start on June 20. Please join me in welcoming Jen to the DCVB.
Best Regards,
