DCVB Partner Newsletter

I would like to thank those who were able to join us last week for the tourism summit at Stone Harbor. The staff did a great job putting all the pieces in place. We had 87 participants and received great comments and reviews on the day and many asking if we were planning to do it again next year. We would like to thank some of our partners, Boelter & Lincoln, LightBurn, and Trail Genius for giving so generously of their time for this program. We were also treated to the preview of the new Discover Wisconsin episode entitled "Made in Door County" The show featured four of our members: Seaquist Orchards, Door County Candy, Door Peninsula Winery and Country Ovens. This was a great co-op opportunity that these members took advantage of participating in. You can see the episode at www.DiscoverWisconsin.com. The episode is currently on their homepage.

In three weeks we will be gathering again to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week. Please consider joining us on Tuesday May 3rd at Maxwelton Braes for our breakfast and celebration. Please go here for details and online registration.

Although we are early in the year the first two months are showing an increase in room tax collections (9.5%). Occupied rooms are relatively flat but rate is driving the increase. Average daily rate was up $10.00 county wide in both January and February. For the seventh month in a row the county sales tax collections were up over the previous year.

Door County Gift Certificate
I would like to once again give the Door County Gift Certificates a plug. I guess I am a bit surprised when I hear of a place that does not accept them. They are just like cash. They are redeemed at 100% of their face value with a quick turnaround time in our offices. The DCVB manages this program as a service to Door County. We do not make any income from the certificates, but pay for the printing and the labor to sell, redeem and balance this program each month. If you do accept them, please remember that you should be giving change back for the unused portion as we will give you 100% of the face value.  Door County Gift Certificate Redemption Information
If you do not accept these certificates, and feel that there is a valid reason other than not wanting to, please call me directly at 920-818-1131 and tell me your reason. Perhaps we have overlooked something.

Best Regards,

Media
Media assistance has been provided to 9 journalists/media outlets thus far in April by providing images, information, on-air/on-camera interviews and/or support for Door County based articles and stories. A few highlights included Men's Journal, Discover America, NBC 26, Select Traveler and the Lifetime TV Network.

New Capture Door County Photo Book
Our newest hardbound photo book titled Seasons Behind The Door will be released soon! Just like with the last book, interested retailers have the opportunity to sell the book at their own stores, with wholesale order information now available via this PDF wholesale order form. I believe this book will again be a popular souvenir among Door County residents as well as visitors. The same wholesale ordering process applies for this book and interested businesses will work directly with Pediment Publishing.

Questions about wholesale orders should be directed to Ashley Ainley at [email protected] or 360-687-6873.  Individual copies of the new Capture Door County book Seasons Behind The Door will be available for purchase at a number of area retailers including the DCVB's Welcome Center.

Acclaim POS Logo
Acclaim POS Brilliant Solutions all started 25 years ago.  We were selling accounting software then, and a small favorite restaurant of ours chatted us up and told us they were in the market for a new POS system and they asked us for our help in picking one out.  That's when we realized the systems on the market were poorly designed and very expensive.  We decided to write a new POS system specifically for the restaurant industry to offer features that managers and staff both wanted and needed.

I'm originally from Milwaukee, but I've been vacationing in Door County since I was 5, spending every summer and weekends year around in Ephraim.  Even my parents have Door County "history" -- Mom started the "Pioneer House" shop in south Ephraim which was the first log cabin built in Ephraim in the 1800's (it was right next to Wilson's restaurant and Dad saved it and moved it to its present location) and Mom and Dad owned and operated "The Trollhaugen Lodge" for many years.

My wife Kitty and I purchased a home in Sister Bay and bringing Acclaim POS here has been a delight.  We have several notable Door County restaurants already using and loving our Acclaim Simple to use, simple to use, simple to learn (and simple to PROFIT) system, and we love hearing from them after the sale when they call to say how much the system has helped their business. We had one client even call us and wanted us to come in and explain why they made so much more money the very first week they had it!
We decided to join the DCVB to become a part of the business community in southern and northern Door County and are looking forward to continuing to contribute to the success of Door County and its restaurateurs.
