Mid-July already!

I have one item for you today.  As you may already know, we are always trying to be innovative, and a lot of our decisions are made while we keep in mind the effect that our decisions have on the environment.  We have spearheaded a few initiatives in the past few years that put the focus on sustainability and living green.  A few examples are the electric car charging stations, the upcoming bicycle maintenance stations, being certified as Travel Green Wisconsin, and the SSN sign-up days for the J1 VISA workers in the county (which saved an estimated 741 gallons of gas by eliminating individual trips to Green Bay).

In Door County, we are fortunate to have many groups who are dedicated to bringing awareness to a wide variety of environmental issues.  One of these groups is the Climate Change Coalition of Door County, whose focus is on protection of water quality, health of forests & farms, well-being of our people and communities through science-based education projects that highlight the likely adverse impacts of climate changes, and actions that can be taken to help preserve our precious natural environment for future generations.  The Climate Change Coalition is asking businesses in Door County to demonstrate their concern about global warming by signing the national business

Climate Declaration. So far more than 30 local businesses have done so. The Declaration calls on everyone to recognize the reality of climate change and to work together to confront this challenge.

We bring this opportunity to you for your consideration:

Click HERE to view a copy of the Climate Declaration and learn more by visiting the Coalition's website at climatechangedoorcounty.com and/or by contacting Dick & Mary Smythe directly at climatechange.doorcounty@gmail.com or by calling (920) 854-3330.

See you in the August newsletter.

Best Regards,

Media Coverage Highlights

Chicago Tribune - Thumbs-up to beer up north

The Chicago Tribune ran a full page article in their "Fork In The Road" section on Sunday July 12, 2015 that talked about the beer scene on the Door Peninsula from Green Bay north into Door County. Check out the online version of the story on ChicagoTribune.com here.

Our spring 2015 PR campaign wrapped up in late June.  The campaign, which began in May, highlighted Door County as a great summer travel destination and included media appearances on all four network TV stations in Milwaukee including WTMJ NBC 4, WITI FOX 6, WISN ABC 12 and WDJT CBS 58 as well as WMAQ NBC 5 in Chicago. The campaign reached a total audience of 510,430 and had an earned media value of $43,129.  Online stories accompanied the live TV appearances with each station, and continue to provide viewers with an opportunity to watch the Door County interviews and get additional information.
