If you think that only national conferences are worth attending, here is one that can give many larger conferences a run for their money. In case you were unable to attend the MiTiN conference this past weekend, it was a great success!   Two nationally recognized speakers spoke at the conference: Nataly Kelly did a keynote presentation on "Drivers, Data, and Differentiators in the Language Services Market" and Harry Obst presented a plenary session "Interpreting for the Presidents".  Their excellent books were also available, and many conference attendees walked away with a book signed by Nataly and Harry.
IEO CEO Jinny Bromberg took part in a panel that discussed issues ranging from what qualities are essential for success in the language industry to pricing strategies.

The IEO booth was visited by many wonderful and interesting people.  It was a pleasure meeting all of you! We are looking forward to keeping in touch and assisting you in reaching your career goals

Also, don't forget about our "Name our course" contest..  If you submit a name to replace our "Basic" course and it's chosen, you'll win a free linguistic resource from our bookstore! We are pleased with all the creative and entertaining submissions we have been receiving and look forward to more.

Hurry! Contest ends November 2nd.

Answer Man: You say fall, I say autumn; let's call the whole thing off

The recent change of seasons reminded me of a question I've wondered about for years: Why do we have two very different names for this time of year: fall and autumn? We've always seemed quite satisfied with one for the others.

Is Gaelic dead?

One person who certainly thinks so is Councillor John McLuckie and he made his feelings clear at a recent meeting of Falkirk Council.
