Water Project Finance
More utilities and municipalities around the United States are considering public-private partnerships for financing the capital expenditures for the upgrade of the aging drinking water and waste water infrastructure. Bond issues to finance the capital expenditures may not be feasible. There are several basic financing models in which the private party developer and its investors make the upfront capital expenditures needed for the water facility. The utility or municipality then purchases water from the facility or leases it on a long term basis as an operating expense. (more) |
Minimum Wage in California
to Increase on July 1, 2014
Following the trend of other states, the California legislature had passed legislation which has increased the minimum wage. As of July 1, 2014, the minimum wage for employees in California will be increased to $9.00 per hour. "Exceptions" to this new minimum wage rate include, but are not limited to, outside sales persons, employees who are the parent, spouse or child of the employer, certain types of "apprentices", disabled employees and employees of certain types of non-profit organizations. How to Source Mobile Application Download Revenue
Mobile application ("app") developers build and distribute apps for an ever-increasing array of devices. Paid downloads constitute a centerpiece of app monetization. For non-US persons who pay tax only on their US-source income, three questions can generally determine the source of such income:
- Question 1: Is the developer transferring copyright rights (i.e., rights in the underlying software such as ownership, sub-distribution, derivative works and public display rights) or mere copyrighted articles (i.e., mere copies of the protected software, such as one download of an app)? (more)
