A Note from NHA Gosnell Executive Director William Tramposch

Season's Greetings!

With another year drawing to a close, we here at the NHA have much to be thankful for, including your continued and generous support!

The fall and winter programs we have hosted thus far have welcomed new and returning visitors to the museum, and we are thrilled to report that our fall 2013 Food for Thought lecture series, our 3rd Diversity Festival and our 2nd Annual 4th grade Nantucket Elementary School sleepover program, Nantucket Night Watch, left wide smiles on many faces.  Thank you to ReMain Nantucket, the Community Foundation for Nantucket and the Nantucket Cultural Council/Massachusetts Cultural Council for helping us bring these types of programs to more and more Nantucketers every year.  We appreciate your support!

This winter will be one of continued planning for 2014 programs and exhibitions, as well as one of restoration and building projects.  The NHA will begin work on its Macy-Christian House on Liberty Street, major restoration of the Old Gaol on Vestal Street, and a garage building enhancement at the 1800 House on Mill Street.

Meanwhile, we are excited to hear reports from England by author Nathaniel Philbrick, and the NHA's own Robyn and John Davis Chief Curator Ben Simons (studying in England this winter), that Hollywood director Ron Howard's film adaptation of Nat's best-selling book "In the Heart of the Sea" is progressing swiftly.

We cannot wait to see the results of Ron Howard's efforts, a film set for global release in early 2015!

Fair Winds and Happy Holidays to All,

Bill

Now in its 20th year, this island tradition begins during Nantucket's highly anticipated Stroll weekend, and features community-crafted trees designed by local merchants, nonprofit organizations, artists and children. The Whaling Museum is transformed into a festive winter wonderland for the entire month of December. This year's Festival of Trees is chaired by islander Deb Killen.

Support the NHA with a Year-End Gift
Year End Appeal

Year-end gifts provide the vital unrestricted operating support that enables us to preserve our iconic places - from the Oldest House and Old Mill to Greater Light and the Old Gaol - and to tell the compelling stories that connect Nantucket's past to the present. Your contribution will have an immediate impact on everything the NHA does - every program we offer, every artifact and historic site we preserve, and every person we inspire through their experiences at the NHA.

We are grateful for your commitment to the NHA's mission of education and preservation, and we are hopeful that you will help us reach this year's goal of $310,000 by December 31. Gifts of any size make a difference!
