Downtown Congestion Reduction Plan - Steering Committee Meeting
Wednesday, June 22, 6:00pm - City Offices, Room 240

The city has been working with a consultant, ARUP, to prepare an in-depth review of Lafayette's traffic & congestion.  A committee was appointed to work with the city & consultant and determine Short, Medium & Long Term solutions.  At Wednesday's meeting ARUP will share the findings and review the solutions.   The public is invited to attend this meeting and make comments during at the beginning of the meeting.

Once the Committee affirms the Short List content and arrangement, including the proposed strategy packages, ARUP would commence modeling those scenarios for detailed traffic analysis during the summer.  With this approach, the next public outreach period will occur in fall 2016. Between the summer Committee meetings and the fall public outreach period, staff propose a presentation 2 of 3 to a joint Council and Circulation Commission meeting, to convey results of the alternative scenario modeling and to announce launch of the next public outreach exercise. For complete information about this upcoming meeting, click here.

Chamber goes Deep Green with MCE

On January 25, 2016, the City Council passed Resolution No. 2016-02 stating that the City intends to join MCE. Once entered into the program, service will likely begin in September. Rates will vary depending on rate schedules, program choice, and rate adjustments.  Each resident or local business will have a choice of service or the ability to "opt out" and stay with PG&E.  Light Green is the default program that currently enrolls you in a 50% + renewable source.  To be enrolled in Light Green you do not need to take any action.  This level is currently 50% renewable and 63% carbon free.  You can also choose to go Deep Green which is 100% Renewable.  To enroll in the Deep Green program please enroll online or call 1 (888) 632-3674. The average increase in cost to a residential customer is about $5.00 a month.

The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors supports this new citywide program and has agreed to give an early endorsement and go 100% Renewable.

MCE IS SCHEDULED TO REDUCE ITS RATES BY 9% ON AVERAGE, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2016. Based on these rates, the cost of MCE Light Green 50% renewable energy service will be slightly less than the cost of PG&E 30% renewable energy service for typical residential and commercial customers.

If you would like to speak to an MCE representative, stop by one of our Rock the Plaza concerts on Friday nights this month.  Lindsay is there to answer questions.  Look for the MCE table in Plaza Park between 6:00pm and 8:30pm.

Diablo Vista Pumping Plant Project

At the City's request, EBMUD has obtained written approval for an earlier start time from both the Lafayette Commons apartment complex and the Lafayette Pointe condominiums on Mt. Diablo Ct.  Unless anyone objects, the City will approve a 7 am (previously 8 am) start time for traffic control setup and construction activities along Mt. Diablo Blvd.  Contact Zach Oates if you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding the start time. Zach Oates can be reached at zoates@ci.lafayette.ca.us.

For more information about this project contact Sharla J. Sullivan, Community Affairs Rep., East Bay Municipal Utility District at ssulliva@ebmud.com.  Or visit their website for more information.
