Chamber goes Deep Green with MCE

On January 25, 2016, the City Council passed Resolution No. 2016-02 stating that the City intends to join MCE. Once entered into the program, service will likely begin in September. Rates will vary depending on rate schedules, program choice, and rate adjustments.  Each resident or local business will have a choice of service or the ability to "opt out" and stay with PG&E.  Light Green is the default program that currently enrolls you in a 50% + renewable source.  To be enrolled in Light Green you do not need to take any action.  This level is currently 50% renewable and 63% carbon free.  You can also choose to go Deep Green which is 100% Renewable.  To enroll in the Deep Green program please enroll online or call 1 (888) 632-3674. The average increase in cost to a residential customer is about $5.00 a month.

The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors supports this new citywide program and has agreed to give an early endorsement and go 100% Renewable.

MCE IS SCHEDULED TO REDUCE ITS RATES BY 9% ON AVERAGE, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2016. Based on these rates, the cost of MCE Light Green 50% renewable energy service will be slightly less than the cost of PG&E 30% renewable energy service for typical residential and commercial customers.

If you would like to speak to an MCE representative, stop by one of our Rock the Plaza concerts on Friday nights this month.  Lindsay is there to answer questions.  Look for the MCE table in Plaza Park between 6:00pm-8:30pm.

A personalized itinerary for your next day trip to Lafayette

To truly experience everything the Bay Area has to offer, you need to travel around, even if only a few BART stops down the line.  The next weekend you have free for a day trip, we suggest venturing to Lafayette, where you can explore an infamous 500 acre animal-filled reservoir, seven miles of historic hiking and biking trails, and a vibrant downtown walking district.  Bring your family, friends, and pups-yes, with an abundance of parks and outdoor patios, this is an incredibly dog-friendly city! - and spend the day experiencing all Lafayette has to offer. Check out this article published by SFGate last week.

Diablo Vista Pumping Plant Project

You may have noticed that there has not been a lot of activity lately down between the Lafayette Park Hotel and Mt. Diablo Court (Blodgett's Abbey Carpet & Flooring).  The reason is because the subcontractor has been waiting on the pipe that will run between the old site and the new site to be delivered.  Beginning today the crew will begin doing lateral connections and then closing major section of the road beginning on the 27th.

Heed no parking and speed limit signs and expect temporary traffic delays. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense.

Note that pedestrians should continue to use the path created with orange barricades in the East bound parking lane. Since some of the saw-cutting and future pipe installation work will cross the pedestrian path, please follow posted detour signs and flagmen, when present, to stay safe.

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM  Monday through Friday.

For more information about this project contact Sharla J. Sullivan, Community Affairs Rep., East Bay Municipal Utility District at ssulliva@ebmud.com.  Or visit their website for more information.
