Lafayette Chamber of Commerce  April 11, 2016 News & Events
Thank you to all who came out to celebrate Dogtown Downtown with us this past Saturday!
In spite of the rain, it was a great event, fun and fairly well attended. The parade, contests, smooching booth and demonstrations were big hits.

Thanks to Patxis, the City of Lafayette and the Lafayette Library and Learning Center for donating prizes. There were plenty of vendor booths to visit.

Thank you to Top Dog Sponsors: Cobain Orthodontists, Merrill Gardens and Four Seasons Animal Hospital.

Thanks to the many helping hands from Boy's Team Charity, National Charity League,
Girl Scout Troop 32238 and Boy Scout Troop 200. A special thanks to our judges: Ellen Reintjes, Cameron Deal and Teresa Gerringer for helping narrow down our top 5 contestants in each category. And a shout out to Terry Ring who constructed the puppy bowl and our Master of Ceremony, Brian Aiello. The clean-up crew rocked!

Our volunteers had an all hands on deck approach from setup to take down which was most appreciated. If you see any of them please extend a thank you on behalf of the chamber members: Norma Evans, Terry Ring, Don Tatzin, Dennis Garrison, Tim Regan, Robin Fox, Amy and Scott Ruegg, Mason and Scott Loyet, Peggy Brennan-Wagner, Claudia Miyar, Pablo Nguyen, Declan Tsuyuki, Michael Brennan, Jack Bayless, Matthew, Nicolas and James Crosby, Caitlin and Juliette Benazra, Darci Olson, Madison Rogers, Emily and Janeene Goodman, Sydney Christensen, Bella Gonzalez, Georgia Carpenter, Jennifer and Eric Larson and the Library staff.

And the best news of all ~ both ARF and Contra Costa Animal Services each had a dog adopted during the event. Successful morning. Hope to see you next year!

EBMUD Work on Lafayette Circle Upcoming
Business owners and residents will recall the extensive work that was done on replacing the main water lines along Lafayette Circle last year.  Work on the western portion of Lafayette Circle from Mt. Diablo Blvd. to Hough was stopped as archeological discoveries delayed the scheduled completion of the project.  It looks as if EBMUD crews will be returning to Lafayette Circle to continue the work.  The proposed start date will be April 14.  This will result in some "one-way" traffic, no parking zones and flagmen attending to the traffic delays.

Questions? Please contact Matt Luttropp, Senior Engineer, City of Lafayette, at (925) 299-3247 or  mluttropp@ci.lafayette.ca.us or Stan Polite, EBMUD Project Manager, at (510) 774-6266 or spolite@ebmud.com.

Volunteers Needed as Judges for Project LPIE
Lafayette Partners in Education and Acalanes High School conduct Project LPIE, an opportunity to recognize talented Acalanes High School Students each spring.  Students compete in any of 14 categories that showcase their skills both within and outside the curriculum.  Professional business people with expertise in the category will judge the entries.  Cash prizes will be awarded to students selected as winners by the panel of judges for each category.  The categories include Acting, Applied Design (3D Art), Computer Programming, Community Service, Creative Writing, Digital Design, Entrepreneur, Instrumental Music, Journalism, Photography (digital), Science and Engineering, Video Production, Visual Arts (2D), Vocal Music.

The purpose of the program is to create collaboration among students, educators, and the business community in Lafayette, to promote educational excellence and to prepare students for the business world of the 21st century.  To that end, we are hoping that you would consider volunteering to be one of our judges for the Entrepreneur category.  We hope to have 3-4 judges for each category.  The time commitment should be minimal.  Projects are due April 13th and most categories will be judged electronically.

Projects will be displayed and the winning projects will be recognized at the Open House event on May 13th at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.  We hope you would be able to attend this showcase.

If you have an interest in working with LPIE and honoring these students here is an great opportunity,  The judging would take place the last 2 weeks of April. For more information, please contact Gabrielle Ohleyer at fundraising@lpie.org or call 925-2999-1644.
