Open Now - Lafayette Gallery presents "12x12" Exhibit 
The Lafayette Gallery is kicking off the new year with a challenge to our artists: to express themselves within the confines of a 12 inch square, in whatever medium they choose. These small works all done in a 1-foot by 1-foot format are just right for affordable gifts of original art, or to add to or begin your own fine art collection! The show titled "12x12" is currently open. It features small works by member artists, all will be done in a 1-foot by 1-foot format. Gallery Hours will be 11am-5pm Tuesday-Saturday and 11am-2pm Sundays. Closed Mondays. The Gallery address is 3420 Mt. Diablo Blvd., in the historic Forge. For more information, visit their website. 
Register Now through Friday, March 18 - Central San Academy
Ever wonder what happens to water when it goes down the drain?  The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District Citizens Academy will provide a behind-the-scenes look at one of your community's core services, the wastewater industry. As a participant in the Citizens Academy, you will learn how we use engineering, chemistry and technology to turn waste into worth, by cleaning our community's water and returning it to our customers as recycled water.  You will also be able to tour our treatment plant, laboratory, recycled water fill station, and household hazardous waste collection facility. This six-week course, starting April 5, is a rare glimpse into how used water gains new life. Please fill out the Application HERE before the end of the day, Friday, March 18 - when applications will be closed.

Now - March 19 - Moraga Art Gallery presents "Intercepting Light: The Mind's Eye" Exhibit
The Moraga Art Gallery kicks off the new year with an exhibit of eye-catching landscapes by photographer Wenda Pyman. The show's centerpiece, a standout image of sunrise in the Florida Keys, captures the timelessness of tide pools and ancient coral beds. The featured guest artist, Joan Ragno has mounted a colorful collection of garments in silk, wool, linen, and neoprene, some embellished with felt and tucking. The show, which includes paintings, ceramics, jewelry, and more by the gallery's fifteen member artists and several guest artists, runs from January 13th to March 19th. The public is invited to an opening reception on Saturday, January 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The gallery is located in the Rheem Shopping Center, at 522 Center Street, Moraga. January 30 - Lafayette Art Gallery's Valentine's Day Exhibition: "Baubles & Bling!"
The Lafayette Art Gallery's newest show, titled "Baubles & Bling" will open on January 30. It will feature works of jewelry, ceramics, paintings and more, all romantically themed around Valentine's Day!  A free reception will be held from 12 - 6pm on Saturday, February 6. Come in, have a festive beverage, and meet the artists as you browse Valentine's Day gifts for your special someone! Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 11am-5pm; Sunday 11am-2pm. February 2 - Lafayette Downtown Creeks Plan - A Community Workshop
The City of Lafayette is providing another formal opportunity for the residents and businesses to comment on their Downtown Creeks Plan. A community workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2, beginning at 7pm at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Community Hall. The workshop will share ideas on options for creek enhancements and discuss priorities. February 5 - The Lafayette Library and Learning Center Distinguished Speaker Series welcomes Joe Loya Jr. in conversation with his father Joe Loya Sr.
In 2004, Joe Loya Jr. published his memoir detailing a difficult childhood and the differences he had with his father that led to a 16 year old Joe Jr. stabing Joe Sr. in the neck during a heated fight. Loya's subsequent self-destructive behavior spiraled out of control in the 1980s with a string of violent criminal activity and 30 bank robberies. Join Joe Jr. and Joe Sr. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center as they discuss what led to the disintegration of their family, and their decision to take the journey back together to rebuild their relationship. February 5 & 6 - Diablo Ballet presents PRECISION AND BALANCE  
Diablo Ballet celebrates the new year with the second program of their 22nd season, Precision and Balance, February 5-6 at the Del Valle Theatre in Walnut Creek with the full production of Apollo by George Balanchine, My Way by beloved company alumna Tina Kay Bohnstedt, set to Frank Sinatra, and Milieu by Robert Dekkers, set to a live performance of a commissioned score by Daniel Berkman. Each performance is followed by an interactive Q&A with the dancers and choreographers and includes a complimentary dessert reception, with an opportunity for the audience members to get up close and personal with the artists. February 6 - NorCal Trout Angler's Challenge 
One of the largest trout fishing tournaments ever to take place in our region will take place on the picturesque shores of the San Pablo Dam Reservoir on Feb. 6. February 6 - Mardi Gras Benefit Gala 
Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler! Let the Good Times Roll! Join us for a fun filled evening on Sunday, February 6 5pm-11pm at the Lafayette Community Center. Wine tasting, dinner, prepared by a French chef, live and silent auctions and dancing to live music! All proceeds help to fund human trials to cure Crohn's Disease. We are three mothers, whose children have this dreadful disease joining forces to organize this event. Our cause is part of a grassroots, all volunteer, non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organization, under the umbrella of Friends of King's College London, Assoc., Inc. For tickets, click here.  
February 10 - The Lafayette Library and Learning Center - WOW Presents: The Asian Art Museum Golden Jubilee 
The Asian Art Museum turns 50 in 2016! The Golden Jubilee lecture highlights ancient and contemporary masterpieces from the museum's collection, including  objects found nowhere else. Learn what makes a work of art great and why a masterpiece stands the test of time. Wednesday, February 10 2pm-3:30pm at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Community Hall. Admission is FREE. February 11 - Shop for a Cure at Glamorous Boutique 
Join Glamorous Boutique for a fundraiser evening benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! Enjoy a glass of bubbles as you browse around the pre-spring collection. 10% of the Sales from the evening will be donated to the foundation! Thursday, February 11 at 6pm at Glamorous Boutique, 1048 Brown Avenue.   
February 12 - Orinda Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and Recognition Luncheon 
The Orinda Chamber of Commerce has the pleasure to announce its 2015 Business Awards.  This year, businesses and business persons are recognized in five categories for their remarkable contribution to the Chamber of Commerce and the community of Orinda: the New Business of the Year is Piccolo Napoli, 2 Theater Square.  Peter Eberle and his wife Maria Napoli offer great Italian pizzas made fresh with homemade sauce and local ingredients; they are a great addition to Theater Square.  The Business Person of the Year is Michael Karp who just opened the Fourth Bore, his third Orinda restaurant.  Karp brings enterprising and creative spirit to Orinda.  The Chamber Member of the Year is Derek Zemrak of Lamorinda Theatres.  Zemrak is a distinguished supporter of the community and the Chamber of Commerce.  California Shakespeare Theater, the Small Business of the Year, has been building character and community in Orinda and beyond.  Eric Jorgensen is the Ambassador of the Year. Jorgensen is one of those volunteer you can always count on to help.

Additionally, some retiring chamber members will be honored for their dedication and efficiency managing the Chamber of Commerce:  Sylvia Jorgensen, immediate Past-President and on the Board of Directors for 8 years; Patti Camras, 17 years on the Board of Directors as Past Secretary and Past President; Candy Kattenberg, 10 years Executive Director.   

All luncheon participants will be entered in a raffle to win a Valentine's Day Shop Orinda bag that includes wine, a dinner voucher and other treats.. February 13 - Opera at the Rheem - Litz Plummer, the Opera Lady from Maiden Lane in San Francisco 
Spend an evening with Litz Plummer, Operatic Soprano, as she sings the greatest opera songs. Litz Plummer has preformed at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco and has been seen on "American's Got Talent." Starts at 7pm at the Rheem Theatre. February 18 through March 23 - Building Veterans' Self-understanding through Self-portraits - Painting Workshops for Veterans of all Services
Arts and Culture Commission of Contra Costa County (AC5) is offering portrait painting workshops at no cost to all Contra Costa County Veterans. Workshops will take place in Martinez at ARTU4iA, a working art studio led by noted artist John Kleber. No experience required. All painting material will be provided. February 20 - LPIE Power Party  
LPIE Power Party and fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 20 from 6:30pm-10:30pm at the Lafayette Community Center. Have fun, and help raise funds for our children and local schools. This celebratory evening is powered by parents and community and will feature live music from The Ripplers, dinner and drinks (open bar), live and silent auctions, raffles, and a whole lot more. February 21 - Contra Costa Camp & School Fair
Contra Costa Camp & School Fair returns to Lafayette for the fourth year on Sunday, February 21 with free activities and over 75 exhibitors allowing attendees to view a smorgasbord of camps, enrichment programs including STEM & STEAM, performing arts, preschools, educational, sports and other programs available this year. February 24 - The Lafayette Library and Learning Center - Empty Hands, One Woman's Journey to Save Children Orphaned by AIDS in South Africa 
The Lafayette Library welcomes Zulu nurse and healthcare activist Sister Abegail Ntleko, author of what O, the Oprah Magazine has called a "tenaciously hopeful memoir," Empty Hands. A recipient of the Dalai Lama's 'Unsung Heroes of Compassion Award,' Sister Abegail will share her incredible story of overcoming poverty, racism, and sexism to earn her education and live a life in service to her community by adopting dozens of children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. February 27-March 19 - Town Hall Theatre presents ANGELS IN AMERICA: PERESTROIKA 
The second and final part of Tony Kushner's epic masterpiece comes to an end.  This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama continues the story begun with Millennium Approaches: the lives of Reagan-ear New Yorkers is turned upside-down as they face revelations about themselves and what it means to be an American at the dawn of the Second Millennium.
