Tuesday, January 19 - Business and Community Symposium - St. Mary's College

The Moraga Chamber and St. Mary's College have partnered to present STATE OF MORAGA BUSINESS 2016.  This event will focus on the challenges and opportunities for business in Moraga.  A panel of experts will present on the current business climate and challenges for Moraga Businesses.  Featured speakers include Ellen Clark - Moraga's Planning Director, Jay Kerner - President and CEO of U.S. Realty Partners, Prof. Kristine Chase - Economics Professor at Saint Mary's and Ron Mucovich - local Commercial Real estate Broker with Westfield Brokers and new Lafayette Chamber member. The event will be held at St. Mary's College in the Soda Center on Tuesday, January 19 beginning at 6:30pm.  This event is free to the public and reservations are not necessary. Wednesday, January 20 - "Events, Social Media & You" Workshop

Join us for our "Events, Social Media & You" Workshop on Wednesday, January 20. Easy steps to use social media to get the most from 2016 events, whether you're a host, presenter, vendor or attendee. Speaker: Robin S. Fox, Digital Strategist. Held at Lafayette Library and Learning Center - Art & Science Classroom - 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. from 8:00-9:30 a.m.

Workshops are FREE but space is limited. Reservations recommended! 

 
Wednesday, January 20 -  Parking Committee Meeting - 5:00pm - City Offices, Room 240

The Parking Committee will be reviewing adding meters to the city owned parking lots and a tiered system for developers to pay in-lieu fees when they can't meet current requirements.  The public is welcome to participate. Tomorrow, January 20 at 5pm at the city offices located at 3675 Mt. Diablo Blvd. 

Friday, January 22 - Business issues Forum - 8:00am - Lafayette Chamber Conference Room

This meeting on Friday, January 22 is open to all members and the public.  We focus on the HOT local current issues.  This is a chance to review in detail such subjects as implementation of the Raking Committee findings, Downtown Creeks project, Lafayette's Congestion study, a potential Sales Tax initiative this coming fall and other pending projects.  We serve coffee and a light breakfast.  Please park on the street. 

Saturday, January 23 - Lamorinda Architects Cafe

Community members are invited to join prominent local architects and interior designers for a complimentary 1-hour consultation to discuss your home design, renovation or expansion plans.  Appointments are available this Saturday, January 23 at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 am; at the Community Hall, Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Wednesday, January 27 - PG&E Community Pipeline Safety Initiative Meeting - noon - Lafayette Chamber Conference Room

Please join representatives from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) on Wednesday, January 27 at noon in the Lafayette Chamber Conference Room for a conversation about the Community Pipeline Safety Initiative. This important gas safety work involves working with the Lafayette community to help ensure emergency access for first responders and prevent damage to natural gas transmission pipelines serving the Lamorinda area. Learn more about how items like structures and trees can block critical access for first responders, and how PG&E plans to partner with the community to relocate and replace items that pose a safety concern. More information on PG&E's community gas safety work is available at pge.com/GasSafety.  PG&E will be serving lunch.  The public is invited.

Andy & Wendy Scheck Selected as the 2016 "Marquis" Business Persons of the Year

Congratulations to Andy & Wendy Scheck, owners of Lamorinda Weekly, who were selected as our 2016 Business Persons of the Year. A dinner honoring Andy and Wendy will be held on January 29 at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa. The annual State of the City address by Mayor Mark Mitchell and the introduction of the 2016 Chamber Board of Director will also take place at this event. Reception at 6pm and Dinner at 7pm. Register online.

Tuesday, February 2 - Public Meeting - Downtown Creek Restoration, Preservation and Development Plan -  Lafayette Library and Learning Center

The second in a series of public meetings will take place Tuesday, February 2, 7:00pm in the Community Room at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center to discuss project prioritization criteria and plan community involvement.  For more information visit www.ci.lafayette.ca.us.
 
Cooking with Kids Foundation Searching for New Board Members
Cooking with Kids Foundation works to change the lives of children by reducing their risk to the epidemic of childhood obesity and diabetes by teaching the valuable life skill of healthy cooking.

Board members will serve a two-year term; participate in monthly Board meetings; chair and grow at least one committee; participate and support CWKF's fundraising events and attend requested trainings.  They have working knowledge of finances, goals, policies, donors, and will personally contribute financially and be a mentor to new board members.  They will build relationships; develop and manage a strategic plan, evaluate and execute the annual Board's Effectiveness Self-Assessment.  They will also be involved in a collaborative work style; show proven accountability for commitments made; sensitivity to and tolerance for others; the ability to listen, analyze, and think creatively; able to work well individually and in groups; actively commit to a philosophy of inclusiveness; adherence to confidentiality, the conflict of interest policies; and have a strong personal integrity.  Interested?  Contact Chef Lynda at ChefLyndaK@aol.com

Thursday, January 21 - Sweet Thursday Welcomes Karen Lynch, Author of Good Cop, Bad Daughter -
7:00 - 8:30PM - Community Hall. Recounting the story of San Francisco's first women cops, Lynch reflects on life with her bi-polar mother, and comes to realize her chaotic past unwittingly provided the perfect foundation for her chosen career. As she finds family and acceptance in a men's club that never wanted her as a member, she fears she will one day face her mother, not as a daughter but as an arresting officer. Saturday, January 23 - Under Arrest: Tales of Classical Music's Most Notorious Felons - 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM - Community Hall. Although the connection between classical music and notorious crimes may seem obscure,  Gold Coast Chamber Players Crime and Punishment will expose the criminal lives of composers. Crime and Punishment is a radical departure from typical chamber music concerts, many of which focus on particular eras, countries, or composers. Details here.

Sunday, January 24 - A Bead in the Hand: A Glass Bead Mystery, by author Janice Peacock -
3:00 - 5:00PM - Community Hall. Peacock wrote her first mystery novel after working in a glass studio full of colorful artists who didn't always get along.They reminded her of the odd, and often humorous, characters in the murder mystery books she loves. Inspired by that experience, she combined her two passions and wrote High Strung: A Glass Bead Mystery, the first book in a new cozy mystery series featuring glass beadmaker Jax O'Connell. Second in the series is A Bead in the Hand. Both books will be available for purchase at the event. Registration requested, this is a FREE event sponsored by the LLLCF.
