Friday, January 15 - Celebration of Life - John Sherry

You are invited to attend a gathering for John Sherry to celebrate his life and all that John did for our community on Friday, January 15 at 2:00pm at Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church. John was an active member of the Lafayette Rotary Club and was a critical participant in many civic projects including the building of the stage at the Lafayette Reservoir.  LOPC is located at 49 Knox Drive.
 
Saturday, January 16 - Lamorinda Architects Cafe

Community members are invited to join prominent local architects and interior designers for a complimentary 1-hour consultation to discuss your home design, renovation or expansion plans.  Appointments are available this Saturday, January 16 and January 23 at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 am; at the Community Hall, Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette.  Bring in photos, room measurements or your home's original drawings  --  and your renovation or addition questions, goals and aspirations.  Each design professional's goal is to focus a direction to resolve your design, planning and renovation questions couched within a summary of the process (e.g., design and construction, zoning entitlements and / or  building permits) that impact every project.   Discuss color, materials and  interior planning with the interior design professional.  True to the "café" concept, enjoy coffee, tea and small bites with either or both professionals in a relaxed one-on-one environment.  This free to the public service is sponsored by Truitt and White  / Marvin Design Gallery.  You must reserve a spot  by email:  cthatcher@truittandwhite.com or phone Christine at 925-260-9999  or visit www.truittandwhite.com/events.
 
Monday, January 18 - Chamber Office Closed

The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce office will be closed Monday, January 18 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.  We will reopen on Tuesday, January 19.
 
Tuesday, January 19 - Business and Community Symposium - St. Mary's College

The Moraga Chamber and St. Mary's College have partnered to present STATE OF MORAGA BUSINESS 2016.    This event will focus on the challenges and opportunities for business in Moraga.  A panel of experts will present on the current business climate and challenges for Moraga Businesses.  Featured speakers include Ellen Clark - Moraga's Planning Director, Jay Kerner - President and CEO of U.S. Realty Partners, Prof. Kristine Chase - Economics Professor at Saint Mary's and Ron Mucovich - local Commercial Real estate Broker with Westfield Brokers and new Lafayette Chamber member. The event will be held at St. Mary's College in the Soda Center on Tuesday, January 19 beginning at 6:30pm.  This event is free to the public and reservations are not necessary. Join us for our "Events, Social Media & You" Workshop on Wednesday, January 20. Easy steps to use social media to get the most from 2016 events, whether you're a host, presenter, vendor or attendee. Speaker: Robin S. Fox, Digital Strategist. Held at Lafayette Library and Learning Center - Art & Science Classroom - 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. from 8:00-9:30 a.m.

Workshops are FREE but space is limited. Reservations recommended! 

 
Friday, January 22 - Business issues Forum - 8:00am - Lafayette Chamber Conference Room

This meeting on Friday, January 22 is open to all members and the public.  We focus on the HOT local current issues.  This is a chance to review in detail such subjects as implementation of the Raking Committee findings, Downtown Creeks project, Lafayette's Congestion study, a potential Sales Tax initiative this coming fall and other pending projects.  We serve coffee and a light breakfast.  Please park on the street.  
Andy & Wendy Scheck Selected as the 2016 "Marquis" Business Persons of the Year

Congratulations to Andy & Wendy Scheck, owners of Lamorinda Weekly, who were selected as our 2016 Business Persons of the Year. A dinner honoring Andy and Wendy will be held on January 29 at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa. The annual State of the City address by Mayor Mark Mitchell and the introduction of the 2016 Chamber Board of Director will also take place at this event. Reception at 6pm and Dinner at 7pm. Register online.

Tuesday, January 12 - Contra Costa Master Gardeners present - Pruning Basics - 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM - Arts & Science Discovery Center. A gardening expert will be on hand to share the basics of healthy pruning practices for your trees, shrubs, and roses. Learn how to prune, when to prune and what to prune. Wednesday, January 13 - Wonders of the World: The UC Davis Arboretum - 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM - Community Hall. Learn about the UC Davis Arboretum that includes 100 acres of beautiful gardens.
