EBMUD To Begin Work on the new East End Pumping Station This Week

After much preparation, the Work to build the new pumping station for EBMUD will begin this week.  This is expected to be a long 19 month project.  Lane closures between Carol Lane and Pleasant Hill Rd. will be a familiar experience in 2016.  New pipes will need to be run between the current station (next to Ace Hardware) and Blodgett's Abby Carpets and Flooring on Mt. Diablo Ct. Parking near the hotel will be difficult.

Lafayette's "Shop Local" Gift Card Program to be Discontinued

Two years ago, more than 40 local businesses joined the chamber to offer a "gift card" that could be used only here in Lafayette.  It was designed to encourage people to TRY LAFAYETTE FIRST.  Recently the bank that issued the cards was sold to another bank.  This made the cards that had been issued obsolete.  Those who purchased cards were sent replacements and they should still be honored by the participating businesses.  However, for all the customers who bought the cards at the chamber office, there was no way to identify who needed replacement cards.  The Chamber does have a list of all the outstanding cards and will be happy to reimburse anyone holding those cards.  We deeply sorry for the inconvenience of this.  And with the Chamber office being closed between Christmas and New Year's, some have to wait until we reopen on January 4th.  If you are a business that has been part of the program, please try and accept the cards that are used in your store.  The chamber will be sending you instructions this week on how to handle the various issues to get through this.  Thank you for your help!

KB Homes Project set for Concrete Pours

The Thompson Builders Corp (General Contractors for the KB Homes project just behind Panda Express at Mt. Diablo Blvd. & Dewing Avenue have announced their upcoming schedule for three 1,000CY concrete pours.  The first will occur next Monday, December 28.  The project will begin at 7:00am and conclude at 9:00pm. The subsequent pours art tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, January 5th and Tuesday, February 2nd, both from 7:00pm - 9:00am.  The Truck Route will bring the Concrete Trucks off of Highway 24E at Oak Hill, right on Mt. Diablo Blvd. and in at Dewing Avenue.  Trucks leaving will turn right on Mt. Diablo and travel westbound to Acalanes.  Expect heavy traffic and delays on Mt. Diablo Blvd. during these days.

Last Chance to Complete Traffic and Congestion Survey - Deadline December 31!

City of Lafayette logo The City of Lafayette wants to know what you think about traffic in the downtown. Take some time during the Holiday season and fill out the survey about your travel habits and give us your ideas about how to improve traffic congestion, parking, transit, and bicycle and pedestrian modes at www.lafayettecongestion.comFor questions, contact Transportation Planner James Hinkamp at JHinkamp@lovelafayette.org.

The survey and interactive map will be available through the end of December. Please forward this message and links to your friends and neighbors so we can get as much data as possible before considering solutions.

EBMUD Work on Lafayette Circle to Resume

For anyone who works or does shopping and dining in downtown knows that there was a lot of "down time" on and around Lafayette Circle this last year.  In the spring, EBMUD replaced the main water line on Lafayette Circle between Mt. Diablo Blvd. and Brook St. Then in mid- summer work resumed on Lafayette Circle between Mt. Diablo and Hough.  Much of the pipe was installed but there is still much to do. The work was stopped when bones were discovered during the dig.  It is possible that this area was once a burial ground.  There is a protocol that must be followed when discoveries like this are made. EBMUD was interested in resuming their work, however the Chamber requested they wait until after the holidays. We have not heard what the start date will be, but assume that there will once again be activity including "flagmen" and delays with one way traffic at times.  As we learn more, we will share with you.
