EBMUD Work on Lafayette Circle - Weekly Update

We were informed by EBMUD that the project to install a new water main on Lafayette Circle between Lafayette Circle (Bank of the West) and Hough has been suspended.  There will be no work scheduled at this time.  More information to follow.

Thursday, October 15 - Noon - Last Chance to Vote for 2016 Chamber Board of Directors!

Your ballot for the 2016 Chamber Board of Directors must be received at the Chamber office by 12:00pm - noon  - on Thursday, October 15 in order to be counted.  Ballots and candidates statements were mailed to all Chamber members at the beginning of the month.  If you need a ballot click here.  Be sure to include your business name on the ballot.
Friday, October 16 - Pen Farthing - Founder of Nowzad at Lafayette Library

At the request of Trust in Education, Pen Farthing, recipient of the 2014 CNN Hero Award and founder of Nowzad, the only authorized animal shelter in Afghanistan, that has helped reunite more than 700 soldiers, with the dogs and cats they rescued from Afghanistan's front lines, will speak at the Lafayette Library on October 16, beginning at 7 pm. He will share the difficulties and rewards of working in a country where animals are not valued as companions, and the Taliban pose a serious threat. Doors open at 6:30 and admission is free. Donations welcome.

Join Assemblywoman Catharine Baker for a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, October 17 from 9:00am-10:00am at the Acalanes High School Cafeteria, 1200 Pleasant Hill Road. Get an update on the issues affecting the State. Take this time to share your thoughts about what is happening in the community and find out how the District Office can be of service to you. "Easy Steps to Claim & Optimize Your Google Plus Local Business Profile" Workshop on Wednesday, October 21 at 8:00am at Lafayette Library & Learning Center. Let's put your business on the Google Map for Local Search. It's time to use the "Google My Business" dashboard to claim & optimize your Google Plus Local Business Profile. Google Plus Local replaced Google Maps and "Google Local". If you've claimed either in the past, it's time to update. This is particularly important for businesses with brick and mortar locations and/or with defined local service areas.

Sunday, October 25 - Lafayette Reservoir Run - 8:00am - Downtown Lafayette

The Lafayette Reservoir Run is the city's most popular "family affair", involving kids, parents, grandparents and hundreds of serious runners from all over the Bay Area. Over 2,500 participants compete in a 10K, 5K or 2 mile race through the heart of downtown Lafayette, around the reservoir and back.  Sprinters, walkers, the "stroller brigade" and many of Lafayette's top four legged residents share the streets on the last Sunday morning in October.  Race times begin at 8:00am and "day of" registration begins at 6:30am.  Enjoy music provided by Stanley Middle School and a pancake breakfast provided by the Lafayette Rotary Club. This event is presented by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lafayette.  Our thanks goes out to Sutter Health - Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation and Oakwood Athletic Club of Lafayette. Lafayette School District Community Engagement Meetings Schedule

High quality, modern school facilities are essential to continuing the excellent teaching and learning that makes our neighborhood schools among the best in the state. This is why Facilities Master Planning is becoming more important than ever for our school district. An essential part of our Facilities Master Planning process involves reaching out to parents and community members to share information, listen, and gather input about facility needs.

Community Engagement Meetings will be held at the following locations on the following dates:

Thursday, October 15th - Lafayette Elementary Library - 6:30 P.M. 
Monday, October 19th - Burton Valley Elementary Multi-Use - 6:30 P.M. 
Thursday, October 22nd- Stanley Middle Library - 6:30 P.M. 
Monday, October 26th - Springhill Elementary Library - 5:30 P.M. 
Tuesday, October 27th - Happy Valley Elementary Library - 6:30 P.M.

Wednesday, October 14 - Wonders of the World Lecture Series: The Maurice Alberti Print Collection - 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM - Community Hall. St. Mary's College Art Museum unveils the Maurice A. Alberti Print Collection and Art Library established through a bequest by alumnus Dr. Maurice A. Alberti, class of 1951, who amassed a vast print collection of museum quality American and European Prints. Opening on October 4th part of his private collection will be on view in the Museum including works by Henri Toulouse Lautrec, Pierre Auguste Renoir, Francisco Goya, Bertha Lum, Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, and Marc Chagall. Thursday, October 15 - DSS: Ayelet Waldman, Love & Treasure: The Itinerary of an Idea - 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM - Community Hall. A Special Sweet Thursday presentation by Friends of the Lafayette Library and the Distinguished Speaker Series: Ayelet Waldman will discuss her latest novel, Love & Treasure, and the history and fate of the Jewish community of Hungary between World Wars I and II. Sunday, October 18 - Sweet Thursday Presents: Sweet Sunday with Linda Peterson - 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM - Community Hall. Sweet Thursday favorite, and former Lafayette resident Linda Lee Peterson returns to discuss her latest mystery The Spy on the Tennessee Walker. Through old letters, flashbacks and the modern-day investigations of the San Francisco based Fiori family, amateur sleuth Maggie Fiori unravels the 150 year old secrets of Civil War nurse Victoria Alma Cardworthy.
