Saturday, September 12 - A Celebration of Life - 11:00am - Our Savior's Lutheran Church

Former Lafayette Chamber Executive Director Ann Denny passed away last week, peacefully surrounded by her family on Swans Island, Maine, where she loved watching the sunsets and having her children and grandchildren around her.   Her husband of 27 years, Ray Bland, was by her side.  Ann spent her life working for causes that made the world around her better.  She served as Director of the March of Dimes in San Francisco and the American Diabetes Association prior to taking over as Executive Director of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce in 1993.  She introduced the inaugural Lafayette Art and Wine Festival in 1995, and was later named Lafayette's Business Person of the Year to honor her tireless efforts in promoting the unique and special qualities of the town and its businesses. Ann was a founding board member of the Lafayette Community Foundation and, after retiring from the Chamber in 2005, Ann remained an active board member for the next decade, offering advice and encouragement to the community she loved.  She could always be found volunteering at community events.  She personified the spirit of "Love Lafayette," and we'll miss her smile; her laugh; the twinkle in her eyes.  We'll miss her heart; her integrity; her commitment to improving the community and to helping people who were less fortunate than her.   Ann lived boldly but kindly.  She made a difference where she went, not with brashness, but with smarts, with compassion, and with a listener's ear, and it always, always felt like a privilege to be with her.  A Celebration of Ann Denny's life will be held on Saturday, September 12 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church located at 1035 Carol Lane, Lafayette.

Diablo Vista Pumping Plant Replacement Project - September 2015-September 2017

EBMUD's Diablo Vista Pumping Plant, located at 3305 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette has reached the end of its useful life.  This critical facility serves the communities of Lafayette, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek. EBMUD will construct a new pumping plant at the southwest corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and Mt. Diablo Court. To connect the new facility to the existing water distribution system, a 30-inch diameter water pipeline will be installed on the north side of Mt. Diablo Blvd. Once the new pumping plant has been constructed and tested, the existing pumping plant will be demolished and turned into a city/public parking lot.

Work on this project is expected to start in mid-September.  Typical work hours for this project are 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday.  Noise generating activities will not start before 8:00 AM.

Initially, EBMUD will clear the lot for the new pumping plant and replace the existing storm drain system located within the property. The bike lane and walkway on the south side of the street will be closed during construction. There will be parking impacts and lane closures along Mt Diablo Blvd. during certain construction activities.

To learn more about this project go to www.ebmud.com. Select Construction in my neighborhood and scroll down to Lafayette to select the project. If you have questions or would like to be added to our project email list please contact Michelle Blackwell in Community Affairs at (510) 287-2053 or [email protected].
