August 1 - 7th Annual Senior Symposium "Aging by
Design"
The Lafayette Community Foundation's 7th Annual Senior Symposium "Aging by Design" will be held on Saturday, August 1 from 8:30am to 12pm (noon) at the Lafayette Elementary School, 950 Moraga Road. This free event is a most informative resource fair for seniors in the Lamorinda community, with more than 40 booths sponsored by local vendors of services to seniors, as well as many non-profit organizations that serve seniors in the community. Speakers include Dr. Martin Iyoya,John Muir Health's Director of Pharmacology; Anne Ornelas, the new executive 
director of the Lamorinda Village; Matt Shriner, chair of the Lafayette Senior Commission; and Dr. Patrick Arbore, executive director of the San Francisco Institute on Aging. For more information plus visit the LCF website.
August 1 - Relay for Life of Lamorinda
Relay For Life of Lamorinda takes place on Saturday, August 1 from 3pm-9pm at Glorietta Elementary School. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is the world's largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and
take action to finish the fight once and for all. Today, with the support of thousands of volunteers like you, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 400 lives a day. Dream
The play Life Is a Dream, running through August 2, is a stunning Spanish Golden Age classic that's been called "the Spanish Hamlet" tells the tale of a prince imprisoned by his father at birth because of a prophecy. Magic Theatre's Loretta Greco directs a brilliant translation and adaptation by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, who brings urgency and accessibility to Calderon's mythic, poetic play, where reality and dreams collide in a story of human will battling fate. presents Madness on Madrona Drive
Eccentric Louise McHugh is delighted to learn her new neighbor is a well known racketeer, Johnny Trovado. One day three people invade her home on one pretext or another: a telephone repair man, a high fashion wedding consultant (her daughter is to be married shortly) and the father of the groom a stranger. Louise gradually realizes their identities 
are false. The three villains state to an amazed yet pleased Louise they are holding her prisoner while they plant a bomb in the Trovado house. Louise, her maid and her brother, a priest, employ inept plans to thwart the villains with spectacularly ineffective results. Moments before the explosion a plan works and Louise waits impatiently for the

Now - August 20 - Moraga Summer Concert Series
You are invited to join your neighbors on Thursday evenings at the Moraga Commons Park for a relaxing free concert in the park. Bring your picnic blanket or lawn chairs to the grassy hillside in front of the band shell. Enjoy the music while your children enjoy the park. The volunteers of the Moraga Park and Recreation Foundation will even cook dinner for you with the Snack Bar opening at 6:00 pm. Concerts start at 6:30 pm and end at 8:30 pm. Now - August 21 - Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery's Exhibit Small Works
Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery's exhibit Small Works runs through August 21. The exhibit features a salon of local artists: Young Sun Bai, Tina Pressler, Nicole Wakeman, Greg Vasgerdsian, Jan Weiss, and Nancy Hartley. Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery is located at 3620 Mt. Now - August 22 - Moraga Art Gallery's exhibit  "Precision Beauty"
Moraga Art Gallery's exhibit Precision Beauty features works created in the artistic traditions of Japan and China. The gallery is located at 522 Center St. in the Rheem Valley Shopping Center. The show runs through August 22. For more information on the show visit their website.

Now - August 29 - Lafayette Art Gallery presents H2O
Lafayette Art Gallery's new exhibit "H2O" runs to August 29. The show will focus on water related themes and techniques, as water is on most everyone's mind lately. Whether it is the use of water in the process, water as a subject matter or the absence of water, many of our co op of gallery artists will showcase works related to the theme of water. As Bonehead Barbecue is open, it's a great time to check out "mouth watering" barbecue and water related art themes at Lafayette Art Gallery next door at the same time! August 4 & 6 - Live Jazz at Lamorinda Music
Come hear some terrific live jazz music in our Big Room in cooperation with Lafayette Summer Music Workshop. On Tuesday, August 4th at 8PM it's Kyle Athayde's Cal Tjader Tribute Quartet featuring Kyle on vibes & timbales, Robb Fisher on bass, Laurence Hobgood on piano, and Dave Meade on congas. On Thursday, August 6th at 8PM come hear the Alan Ferber Quintet (plus special guests) featuring Alan on trombone, Peter Barshay on bass, Dan Pratt on tenor sax, Akira Tana on drums, and Laurence Hobgood on piano. August 7 - Summer Jazz Camp Concert

The Lafayette Summer Music Workshop will be hosting non-stop music on Friday, August being performed from 3:30pm - 9:00pm at Stanley Middle School (3455 School Street). The annual jazz camp sponsored by Generations in Jazz features bands made up of this year's attendees. For more information about the Summer Jazz Camp please visit their website.

August 8 - Free Home Composting Workshop

The Lafayette Community Garden is pleased to host a composting workshop with the Central Contra Costa Waste Authority. Free Home Composting Workshop on Saturday, August 8th, 3:00-4:30 PM at the Lafayette Community Garden. Instructor: Marian Woodard.
