Now - August 21 - Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery's Exhibit Small Works
Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery's exhibit Small  Works runs through August 21. The exhibit  features a salon of local artists: Young Sun Bai, Tina Pressler, Nicole Wakeman, Greg Vasgerdsian, Jan Weiss, and Nancy Hartley.  Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery is located at  3620 Mt. Now - August 22 - Moraga Art Gallery's exhibit "Precision Beauty"
Moraga Art Gallery's exhibit Precision Beauty features works created in the artistic traditions of Japan and China. The gallery is located at 522 Center St. in the Rheem Valley Shopping Center. The show runs through August 22. For more information on the show visit their website.

June 25, July 9 & 23, August 6 & 20 - Orinda Movies in the Park
On several Thursday evenings watch a family movie beginning at dusk in the Orinda Community Park, 28 Orinda Way. Check their website for a list of dates and featured movie.

June 25 - August 20 - Moraga Summer Concert Series
You are invited to join your neighbors on Thursday evenings at the Moraga Commons Park for a relaxing free concert in the park. Bring your picnic blanket or lawn chairs to the grassy hillside in front of the band shell. Enjoy the music while your children enjoy the park. The volunteers of the Moraga Park and Recreation Foundation will even cook dinner for you with the Snack Bar opening at 6:00 pm. Concerts start at 6:30 pm and end at 8:30 pm. June 29 - July 22 - Lafayette Community Garden's Our Secret Garden III
Lafaytte Community Garden's Our Secret Garden is in its third year celebrating our Earth and her sustainable young stewards. Beginning Monday, June 29 through Wednesday, July 22 on Mondays and Wednesday from 9:00 - 10:00am, Lafayette Community Garden's Eli Chan and Tracy Randolph will host an hour of stories, crafts and exploration for children of all ages. Kids and caregivers will unearth gifts from Mother Nature and learn traditions from generations past. Classes at the Lafayette Community Garden, unless specified, are free. June 30 - 5th Annual Sustainable Lafayette Summer Film Series Kicks Off at Lafayette Library with "Racing to Zero"
Tuesday, June 30's 5th Annual Sustainable Lafayette Summer Film Series presents "Racing to Zero" Trash. Garbage. Junk. These are words we commonly call the things we throw away. But in San Francisco, there is a different perspective. The city's passion for going green is contagious and ensuring re-use has reached a collective fever pitch. The city's mission has given residents a sense of pride and inspiration. The innovative methods and programs displayed in "Racing to Zero" provide a blueprint for change that may one day be applied all over the U.S. The film runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in the Community Hall of the library. Free snacks, cookies, coffee, and refreshments will be served at each movie and special guest speakers will be included when possible. $10 donation requested. $5 for students.

June 30 - August 29 - Lafayette Art Gallery presents H2O
Lafayette Art Gallery's new exhibit "H2O" opens June 30 and runs to August 29. The show will focus on water related themes and techniques, as water is on most everyone's mind lately. Whether it is the use of water in the process, water as a subject matter or the absence of water, many of our co op of gallery artists will showcase works related to the theme of water. As Bonehead Barbecue is open, it's a great time to check out "mouth watering" barbecue and water related art themes at Lafayette Art Gallery next door at the same time! July 2, 3 & 4 - Orinda Starlight Village Players presents Black Coffee
This little known mystery will surprise and delight Christie fans. Written in 1934, the story concerns a physicist named Sir Claude Amory who has come up with a formula for an atom bomb. In the first act, Sir Claude is poisoned (in his coffee, naturally) and Hercule Poirot is called in to solve the case. He does so after many wonderful twists and turns in true Christie fashion. July 4 - Moraga 4th of July Celebration
Moraga goes all out for this national celebration with its many local traditions, starting off with a Fun Run for all ages at 7:30 a.m. This is followed by a Dog Parade, a Pancake breakfast, a Bike Parade, old fashioned games, a family Magic Show, and lots of Community Booths, all centered in the Moraga Commons Park. Towards evening, music from the stage fills the air, and at dark, the sky is filled with spectacular fire works as folks gather on lawns, parking lots, roof tops, and open fields to watch the "the bombs bursting in air". July 4 - Orinda 4th of July Celebration
On July 4th Orinda has events for every age group starting with the annual Pancake Breakfast, flag raising ceremony, fun run, parade, live music, food, games and booths in the park following the parade. Everyone is invited to participate in the planning, sponsor a booth or event, participate in the parade, host a booth in the park, or just come and enjoy the events. July 7 - 5th Annual Sustainable Lafayette Summer Film Series presents "Food Patriots"

Tuesday, July 7 the 5th Annual Sustainable Lafayette Summer Film Series presents "Food Patriots". "Food Patriots" is a new feature length documentary film designed to get everyone to improve their buying and eating habits by 10%. That's 10% more fresh fruits and veggies, 10% more organics, and 10% more locally grown food. The goal of the film and its corresponding public engagement campaign is to get consumers to demand better food, food policy and changes in our food system. The film runs from 6:30p to 8:30p in the Community Hall of the library. Free snacks, cookies, coffee, and refreshments will be served at each movie and special guest speakers will be included when possible. $10 donation requested. $5 for students.

July 8 - August 2 - Cal Shakes presents Life Is a Dream

The play Life Is a Dream, running from July 8 - August 2, is a stunning Spanish Golden Age classic that's been called "the Spanish Hamlet" tells the tale of a prince imprisoned by his father at birth because of a prophecy. Magic Theatre's Loretta Greco directs a brilliant translation and adaptation by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, who brings urgency and accessibility to Calderon's mythic, poetic play, where reality and dreams collide in a story of human will battling fate. July 9 - Thursday Night Live at Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery

July 17 - Synergy Theater's Spontaneous Combustion!
Synergy Theater's Spontaneous Combustion! The Improv Comedy Explosion - A comic explosion of hysterical scenes and outrageous characters all based on the real-life stories of a real, live person takes place on Friday, July 17 at 8pm. July 18 - Synergy Theater's The Joke Show!

July 18 - Operation Swingtime
Our local Rotary Clubs (Lafayette, Lamorinda Sunrise, Orinda, Moraga and Rossmoor) are planning a very special evening concert on the Rotary stage at the Lafayette Reservoir on Saturday, July 18 beginning at 5:00pm. Operation Swingtime is a free outdoor concert featuring Mic Gillette on Trumpet (formally with Tower of Power), the Big Band of Rossmoor and the Swingin Blue Stars. For one night only - July 20 - Cal Shakes presents Virgins To Villains - My Journey Through Shakespeare's Women, written and performed by Robin Goodrin Nordli. In this humorous and touching production, Ms. Nordli takes you on a personal journey through the female side of Shakespeare's canon, and how it has resonated in her life - a journey of virgins to villains. July 24 - August 15 - Orinda Starlight Village Players presents Madness on Madrona Drive
Eccentric Louise McHugh is delighted to learn her new neighbor is a well known racketeer, Johnny Trovado. One day three people invade her home on one pretext or another: a telephone repair man, a high fashion wedding consultant (her daughter is to be married shortly) and the father of the groom a stranger. Louise gradually realizes their identities are false. The three villains state to an amazed yet pleased Louise they are holding her prisoner while they plant a bomb in the Trovado house. Louise, her maid and her brother, a priest, employ inept plans to thwart the villains with spectacularly ineffective results. Moments before the explosion a plan works and Louise waits impatiently for the media cameras to arrive. For more information visit their website.

July 28 - 5th Annual Sustainable Lafayette Summer Film Series presents "Just Eat It"
Tuesday, July 28 the 5th Annual Sustainable Lafayette Summer Film Series presents "Just Eat It". Canadian filmmakers and food lovers Jenny Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin dive into the issue of food waste from farm, to store, to fridge. After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is discarded each year in North America, the filmmakers pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on foods that would otherwise be thrown away. The images they capture of squandered groceries are both shocking and compelling. But as Baldwin's addictive personality turns full tilt towards food rescue, the 'thrill of the find' has unexpected consequences. The film runs from 6:30p to 8:30p in the Community Hall of the library.
