Monday, March 23 is Reservations Deadline for Friday's Citizen of the Year Dinner.

The "Citizen of the Year" dinner honoring Marechal Duncan takes place at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa on Friday, March 27. Cocktails begin at 6pm & Dinner at 7pm. Deadline for online  reservation is Monday, March 23.
We will accept reservations at the Chamber office until Noon, Wednesday, March 25.


Tonight - Monday, March 23 - City Council Meeting - 7:00pm

City of Lafayette logo On the agenda tonight - Monday, March 23 - the Environmental Task Force will review their goals and accomplishments and the  public will get another chance to weigh in on the Wight Residence Project - 10,003 sq.ft. single family residence at 1240 Monticello Rd. The meeting will be held at 7:00pm in the Community Hall of the Lafayette Library & Learning Center.

 

Tonight - Monday, March 23 - Design Review Commission Meeting - 7:00pm

Tonight - Monday, March 23 - The Design Review Commission  will have a study session to review the proposed construction of a Workforce Housing project along with additional public parking on the city owned parcel at 949 Moraga Rd. A second study session will focus on the Art Room building at 60 Lafayette Circle.  The Whitten Family are proposing to demolish the existing 1,233 sq. ft. commercial building and construct a new 2,500 sq. ft. building.  This will be an informational item and not formal action will be taken. The meeting will be at 7:00pm in the Arts & Science Discovery Center at the Lafayette Library & Learning Center.
Tuesday, March 24 - Green Committee Meeting

Green LogoThe Green Committee will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 24 at noon in the Chamber Conference Room. If you interested in becoming a green business and/or to learn more about "green" issues effecting Lafayette this meeting it is for you. This month's meeting will focus on our upcoming Earth Day event and the roll out of the Plastic Bag and Styrofoam Ban. Please park on the street.

 

Wednesday, March 25 - Monthly Mixer at GemLust

The monthly mixer will be held on Wednesday, March 25 at GemLust, 3529 Mt. Diablo Blvd., at 5:30pm. Our mixers are a great place for networking and learning more about your fellow Lafayette businesses. Parking will be a bit of a challenge.  Best place to park will be Plaza Way across the street from Wells Fargo or along Golden Gate Way.

 

Thursday, March 26 - Young Professionals Group Meeting

The Young Professionals Group will hold their next meeting on Thursday, March 26 at 5:30pm in the Chamber Conference Room.  This month's speaker is Italina and her topic is "Leverage LinkedIn for Leads: From a Marketing & Branding Expert". Friday, March 27 - Coffee with the Mayor

On Friday, March 27 at 8:00am in the Chamber Conference Room you have an opportunity to enjoy Coffee with Mayor Brandt Anderssen. This meeting will focus on the upcoming "Community Conversations", the proposed housing/parking project on Moraga Rd. and the alternative project for 44 detached homes on Deerhill Rd. Come and get your questions answered regarding the many issues taking place in Lafayette.  Our Business Forum and Coffee with the Mayor meetings are sponsored by PG&E. Please park on the street.  Light breakfast is served.  Everyone is welcome.

Saturday, March 28 - Earth Hour - 8:30-9:30pm

On Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 p.m., hundreds of millions of people worldwide will switch off their lights for one hour during Earth Hour to show their commitment to taking action against climate change. Earth Hour is the world's largest display of support for solutions to our environmental issues. This hour inspires individuals, business, and communities in cities and towns to unite to tackle climate change on a global scale. Last year, over 7,000 cities in 162 countries participated in Earth Hour. Tuesday, March 31 - Deadline fo Lafayette Community Foundation (LCF) Grant Applications

The Lafayette Community Foundation (LCF) will be accepting grant applications from local non-profits until Tuesday, March 31 for its Spring 2015 grant cycle. LCF invests in programs and projects that promote and enhance the civic, cultural, educational and environmental health of Lafayette and beyond. ALL applications must be received through the online application form- please go to our website at www.lafayettecf.org and click on APPLY FOR A GRANT.

Saturday, April 11 - Dogtown Downtown

Join us for our second annual Dogtown Downtown on Saturday, April 11 from 10am-1pm. Dog Parade at 10am from the Lafayette Plaza Park to the Lafayette Library & Learning Center.  Activities at the library include workshops, lectures, demonstrations and dog adoptions. There will also be contests for: best team tricks, best costume, looks most like owner, waggiest tail and best of show (enter you dog in any/all contest - Free registration starts @ 9am at the Lafayette Library & Learning Center).

Thursday, April 16 - Second Community Conversation Meeting

The City is convening a series of Community Conversations to find out what kinds of projects (if any) you'd like to see in Lafayette between now and 2034. You still have time to join the Community Conversation! 

1. Fill out the survey found in the Vista newsletter and mail it to the City.
2. Fill out the survey online.
3. Send a letter or email that reflects your priorities to [email protected].
4. Attend a Community Conversation meeting in your neighborhood & make your voice know.

There are two more Community Conversation meetings both at 7pm - April 16 at the Lafayette Community Center and May 14 at Oakwood Athletic Club. Childcare will be provided - to reserve a spot email City Clerk Joanne Robbins at [email protected].


 

Call for Artists, 2015-16 Exhibition Season

The City of Lafayette Public Art Committee invites artists living or working in the Bay Area to submit proposals for exhibitions in the Library Art Gallery located at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in downtown Lafayette. Individuals and non-commercial groups based in the Greater Bay Area may exhibit. Priority consideration is given to those in Contra Costa County.  There is no cost to apply for review or to exhibit in the LLLC.  Potential exhibitors must submit a complete a LLLC Gallery Exhibition Application to the City of Lafayette, 3675 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Suite 210, Lafayette, CA  94549.  Completed applications will be reviewed by the Public Art Committee.  The committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month.  For more information, contact Juliet Hansen at 925-299-3216 or [email protected].

Bring the kids for an evening of stories told in the oral tradition, featuring Ruth Halpern, Kirk Waller and Jean Ellisen. Saturday, March 28 - 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM - Community Hall. Spring Concert: Flock of Flutes. Join us for the sounds of spring with Flock of Flutes!
