Tuesday, January 27 - Green Committee Meeting

Green Logo Our monthly Green Committee Meeting is Tuesday, January 27 at noon in the Chamber Conference Room. Would you like to learn how to become a Lafayette Green Business?  Want to know more about the changes to garbage/recycling pick up in the new year?  Interested in meeting like-minded business owners and managers that are interested in the environment?  Join us for our first meeting in 2015.  This is a great chance to get involved with a Chamber committee at the ground level.  Environmental experts will be on hand to help guide us.  Bring your lunch and just show up!  If you must drive your car, please park on the street!

 

Last Call for Tickets - Business Person of the Year

The "Marquis" Business Person of the Year Annual Dinner honoring Leila Douglah is on Friday, January 30 beginning at 6:00pm at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa. The evening also includes the introduction to our 2015 Board of Directors, our incoming President Debbie Cooper, Mechanics Bank and the "State of the City" address by Mayor Brandt Andersson. Reservations can be made online through Tuesday night. After the online reservation closes you can still call the  Lafayette Chamber of Commerce office at 925-284-7404. Deadline to register is NOON, Wednesday, January 28.

 

Thursday, January 29 - Ribbon Cutting at Bay Sotheby's International Realty

Join us for a Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, January 29 at 5pm at Bay Sotheby's International Realty's new building at 3725 Mt. Diablo Blvd.  

 

Bradley School of Music Hosts UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Benefit

Songs for Hope' to benefit UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital of Oakland. The event will take place January 31, 2015 from 7-10pm at Bradley School of Music.  The event includes great music, pizza, drinks, and raffle prizes. Raffle prizes consist of gift cards and certificates from Costco, Bradley School of Music, Cheese Cake Factory, Maria Maria, Starbucks and many more. 'Songs for Hope' is sponsored by Bradley School of Music and Costco.

The event is $10 per person, 100% of which will be donated to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Donations play a vital role in supporting the people, programs, and services at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Contributions allow them to meet new challenges and seek solutions to help children lead longer and healthier lives. For more information: call 478-5200 or email  [email protected].


 

Thursday, February 5 - Ribbon Cutting / Grand Opening at Merrill Gardens at Lafayette

 

Join us to celebrate the grand opening of the exciting, new retirement community, Merrill Gardens at Lafayette on Thursday, February 5! Join city and county dignitaries and the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 pm. Mix and mingle with Merrill Gardens residents and neighbors while enjoying their excellent food and wine. Tours of the community available as well. Valet parking.

PG&E Bright Minds Scholarship Program

PG&E is now accepting applications for their Bright Minds Scholarship Program. Each year, through the Bright Minds scholarship program, PG&E awards ten renewable scholarships of up to $20,000 per year for up to five years and 90 one-time $2,000 scholarships. Over the past three years, PG&E has awarded nearly $3 million in Bright Minds scholarships to high school and current college students and veterans, many of whom will be the first in their family to attend college.

The program has become increasingly competitive, with thousands of applicants each year. The scholarship is open to all majors but a preference is given to students in STEM majors. In selecting scholarship recipients, PG&E looks for students who:
* Demonstrate academic achievement
* Have a financial need (students are required to apply to FAFSA
* Exhibit personal or community leadership

Wednesday, January 28 - 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM - Community Hall. Science Cafe: The Art & Science of Violin Making. Explore the Art & Science of violin making with guest speaker Alan Copeland, an award winning violin, cello and viola maker. Science Cafe will explore the science of violin making - including the recent carefully designed studies of player preferences among old and new instruments, the use of x-ray CT scanning to understand iconic violins, approaches to material selection, and measurements with modern tools as an aid in the making process. For more information click here.
