Lafayette Chamber of Commerce  October 13, 2014 News & Events
Chamber Office Closed on Monday, October 13

The Chamber Office will be closed on Monday, October 13 in observance of the Columbus Day Holiday.  We will reopen on Tuesday, October 14 at 9:00am.
Tuesday, October 14 - City Council Meeting - busy with Business Issues

The Lafayette City Council will be meeting on Tuesday, October 14, 7:00pm at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center. No meeting Monday due to Columbus Day. On the agenda there three items that directly affect our business community:

* SB 270 has been signed by Governor Brown and will go into effect July 1, 2015. Lafayette has until December 31st to enact their own "Single-Use" plastic bag ban. Members of the chamber's Green Committee will be on hand to speak to the council.
* Meters in private lots - A new ordinance has been written to allow private property owners the right to give citations for guests violating the terms of their parking rules. La Fiesta Square is planning to install parking meters. The ordinance must be read twice. It will appear on the agenda again on Monday, October 27. Given public concern and the increase in the need for downtown parking, the chamber feels this is a very important discussion and we encourage you to weigh in. Please planning on attending one of the meetings or contact our city council at cityhall@lovelafayette.org.
* There will be some discussion about adding a surcharge for developers/builders when "staging" new developments in the public right-of-way.
