Wednesday, October 8 - Mixer at Lafayette Art Gallery | |  Our monthly mixer is Wednesday, October 8 at the Lafayette Art Gallery from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. At Lafayette Art Gallery is located in The Forge at 3420 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Suite A. The Gallery soon to be new neighbor, Dave Roberson of Bonehead BBQ will be providing a sampling of his wonderful dishes. The Gallery is working on some additional food selections also. Some of the artists have donated their works and local businesses such as Busy Stix are donating handmade items for the Raffle. If you would like to have your business recognized, please bring a raffle item.

Thursday, October 9 - Special Meeting - IS PARKING A PROBLEM IN LAFAYETTE? | |
What do YOU think of: Parking meters? Permits for employees? A parking garage? Attend the this workshop to discuss downtown parking and potential strategies to address the issue. City Staff is interested in hearing your thoughts on parking and ways to solve the issues that we face. Presented by the CITY OF LAFAYETTE PARKING ORDINANCE COMMITTEE, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 FROM 6-8 P.M, LAFAYETTE METHODIST CHURCH, FELLOWSHIP HALL. This will be the first in a series of downtown parking workshops to obtain feedback from the community to help the City draft its future parking policies. The focus of the meeting will be the Downtown Core. Sunday, October 19 - Harvest Festival | |
The Lafayette Community Garden and Outdoor Learning Center invites the entire community to an open house and harvest festival on Sunday, October 19, from 11 - 3. There will be tours, games, crafts, an unveiling of a new garden mural, food, music, displays, a presentation about chickens at 11 and talk about the natural history of the Lafayette Creek area at 1:30. The garden is located at 3932 Mt. Diablo Boulevard, across from the Reservoir.

Friday, October 24 - Trick or Treat Street | |
We are asking you to help us create a fun and safe event for the children. Parents will bring the kids around from business to business. Think about staying open till 6:00pm. If you would like to participate, please put the "Trick or Treat Street" poster on your door on Friday, October 24. Let us know you are in by emailing sara@lafayettechamber.org by October 21, so we can include you on the map/list. This event is in the center of town and includes Mt. Diablo Blvd. from Dewing to 1st Street and Lafayette Circle. Have some candy or treats for the kids. This is sure way to get some new customers trough your door. Last year we had several hundred kids participating. |

Our annual Health Fair - supporting the Healthy Lifestyles of Lamorinda Residents will be held at this year's Lafayette Reservoir Run on Sunday, October 26. Online Registration for the 22nd annual Reservoir Run held on Sunday, October 26 is now open. This year's t-shirt is based on the artwork of student Julien O'Donnell. Wonders of the World Lecture Series: deYoung Museum Docent Talk, The Friends of the LLLC present the next program in their Wonders of the World Museum Docent Lecture Series: Lines on the Horizon: Native American Art from the Weisel Family Collection. Spanning more than 1,000 years of artistic creativity, this exhibition focuses on the indigenous arts of the American Southwest, featuring 11th-century Mimbres ceramics alongside masterful classic Navajo weavings. One thing that has remained constant, however, is the presence of Congressman George Miller who was just 29 years old when first elected in 1974. Already a six-term veteran by the time Nancy Pelosi entered Congress, Miller was known as her strong right arm throughout her rise to House leadership. Join the Commonwealth Club to celebrate this longtime public servant. Saturday, October 11 - 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Community Hall. 2nd Annual Teen Battle of the Bands! In this exciting event, teen bands will battle it out on stage in front of their friends and peers alike for cash and other prizes. The doors open at 2:45pm and the show will begin at 3:00pm. Radio station Live 105 will take on hosting duties and have a table with games for attendees. The Guitar Center will also have a table and raffle for a free set of guitar lessons. The library's own Bookmark Café will be present to sell food and beverages. Raffle prizes will be randomly awarded to audience members between each set. For more information click here.

By studying tree rings and lake sediments, scientists have found that droughts were once typical in California and have been known to last for decades.
