August 25 -  September 6 - Making  the Everyday Unique: Functional Clay and Glass from ACGA exhibit

 The Association of Clay and Glass Artists is holding their annual juried exhibition at the Lafayette Art Gallery through September 6. The show is juried by John Toki, noted ceramic sculptor and retired faculty member California College of the Arts. The Lafayette Art Gallery will be showing some of the best functional ceramics and glassware that California artists  have created, including tea pots, casseroles, bowls, serving dishes and vases from over 20 selected artists. The Gallery is located at 3420 Mt. Diablo Blvd. and is open Tues.-Sat. 11am-5pm and Sun. 11am- 2pm. The more information visit their website.

September 3 - September 28 - Cal Shakes presents A Midsummer Night's Dream

Cal Shakes is presenting William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by Shana Cooper from September 3 - September 28. Like she did with last year's inventive Romeo & Juliet, Shana Cooper will take apart another of Shakespeare's iconic works, A Midsummer Night's Dream, putting it back together again in a way that's sure to open your eyes and jump-start your heart. September 4 - The Art of Aging: It's Not What You Think
 
When you think "art + aging," do your thoughts drift straight to Grandma's needlework? Meet Patrick Hayashi, who plans to demonstrate in his upcoming art talk that combining a long life and a passion for creating can make for some fascinating stories. On Thursday, September 4 the Lamorinda Arts Alliance is presenting a slide lecture by Patrick Hayashi about a life well-lived, how he discovered smoke painting without setting his kitchen on fire, and learning on the fly to be a diplomat and art professor as he packed for Kyrgyzstan. The event is at 7:30pm and takes place at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1035 Carol Lane, Lafayette. For event info contact Donna Arganbright at 788-0549.

    

September 5 - Take an Art Break!
 
Art Break Day in Lafayette on Friday, September 5 from 10am - 5pm in front of The Art Room, 51 Lafayette Circle. An Art Break is when a person takes time out of his/her day to sit down, relax and make art. An Art Break is even bettern when it is done in a public space so the whole community can grow together around an art table. On September 5th tousands of people in cities across the world are taking an Art Break together. Check out www.artbreakday.com. Francophiles of all ages are invited to the September 6 Marquis de Lafayette Birthday Celebration on Saturday, September 6 starting at 4:00pm at the Park Plaza (intersection of Moraga Rd. and Mt. September 9 - October 7 - Lafayette Art Gallery's exhibit "Celebrating 15 Years in Lafayette: Then and Now"


 The Lafayette Art Gallery's new exhibit starting September 9 is "Celebrating 15 Years in Lafayette: Then and Now". The exhibit is highlighting work of the five original founders from when the Gallery was started, as well as their work today. The founders are Susan Erickson, Jill Landau, Margaret Lucas-Hill, Judy Miller and Pat Prosek. Lafayette Art Gallery celebrates their 15th Anniversary with a reception on Friday, September 12 from 5:30-7:30pm. The Art Gallery is located at 3420 Mt. September 11 - 14 - 17th Annual California Independent Film Festival

The 17th Annual California Independent Film Festival will be held September 11 - September 14 with films playing at the Orinda Theatre, The New Rheem Theatre and The Castro Theatre. For a complete list of films being shown as well as special events, visit their website.
 
September 12 - 14 - Orinda Classic Car Show Weekend
 
The Orinda Annual Class Car Show starts with Dancing with the Cars: Rebels With A Cause on Friday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. The Classic Car Show will be held on Saturday, September 13 at the Orinda Country Club fairway on Orinda Way from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lastly, The Blues Brothers (5:30pm) and Duel (7:45pm) will play on Sunday, September 14 at the Orinda Theatre. September 13 - October 11 - Town Hall Theatre presents Company

Lafayette's Town Hall Theatre presents Company (Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by George Furth) from September 13 - October. Winner of seven Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards, "Company" focuses on Robert, a confirmed bachelor celebrating his 35th birthday, surrounded by friends showing him the pros (and cons) of married life. With such songs as "Barcelona", "Side By Side By Side" and "Marry Me A Little", this trailblazing musical is the first taste of our upcoming season. Previews September 11 & 12. September 15 - City of Lafayette Blood Drive

The City of Lafayette is having a Blood Drive on Monday, September 15 from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Look for the American Red Cross Bus at 3675 Mount Diablo Blvd. To schedule your appointment or for more information visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: lafayette or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

"How to Leverage Social Media to Help You Get the Most from Events" Workshop on Wednesday, September 17 - 8 a.m. (90 min). Are you planning to host or attend events that support your business? In this workshop, we'll talk about easy steps for using social media tools (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn) to get the most from these events. September 19 - October 11 - Malcolm Cowler's stage adaption of Bram Stoker's Dracula

The Orinda Starlight Village Players present Malcolm Cowler's stage adaption of Bram Stoker's Dracula from September 19th thru October 11th. Shows are Fridays, 8:30 p.m.;Saturdays, 8:30 p.m. This show retells the story of the vampire Dracula's attempt to move from Transylvania to England and the battles that ensue between a band of heroes led by Van Helsing and the monster. At the Outdoor Theater, Orinda Community Center Park, 28 Orinda Way - be aware that this is an outdoor theatre and dress appropriately/bring blankets.Bring a picnic and enjoy the show! September 20 - 21 - 19th Annual Lafayette Art & Wine Festival

The 19th Annual Lafayette Art & Wine Festival is held on Saturday, September 20 from 10am-7pm and Sunday September 21 from 10am-6pm. That's when we throw Contra Costa's biggest "End of the Summer Party" and winner of the Diablo Magazine's Best of the East Bay Award for the last three years. September 23 - Mixing 101: Mixing at Business Networking Events Workshop

Does the thought of entering a busy roomful of strangers cause you to feel fear? Is it your goal to meet these new people, to increase your pipeline of business prospects? Are you unsure about how to efficiently sift through the crowd to find your prospects? Do you want better guidance than another elevator speech lecture? Come to the Mixing 101: Mixing at Business Networking Events Workshop on Tuesday, September 23 from 10am-12pm at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center. Here are some of the topics that will be covered.
* Unearth the reasons many do not go to business mixers, and then - overcome them.
* Learn a before-mixing checklist that will prepare you and help you feel at ease.
* Gain new and effective mixing skills and strategies.
* Grasp techniques to maximize your follow-up with your new found prospects.

Our workshop presenter is David M. de Leeuw, Publisher of The Chamber Link. David brings 34 years of sales and sales management success to his workshop, "Mixing 101." He built his success on networking, especially at mixers held by local Chambers of Commerce. By fine-tuning a system of mixing and follow up, David's business thrived. September 26 & September 28 - Sextets- Dvorak and Tchaikovsky

The Gold Coast Chamber Players presents Sextets- Dvorak and Tchaikovsky with Juliana Athayde, Candace Guirao on violins, Pamela Freund-Striplen and Cassandra Lynne Richburg on violas and Eric Gaenslen and Robert Howard on cellos. The program is Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Souvenir de Florence for string sextet and Antonin Dvorak: String Sextet. Concerts at the Lafayette Library Community Hall, 3491 Mt. September 27 - Las Trampas 5th Annual Walk n' Roll

Grab your running/walking shoes, or tune up your wheels for Las Trampas 1 mi. or 5k stroll/roll/run on Lafayette-Moraga Trail on Saturday, September 27 from 9am-12pm. 92.1KKDV provides music, games, prizes. $25 ticket includes t-shirt, food, exhibits, carnival games, raffles. September 27 - Moraga Pear & Wine Festival

The 16th Annual Moraga Pear & Wine Festival will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Moraga Commons Park from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is a family friendly event with activities for all ages celebrating Moraga's Pear history! September 27 - La Clinica de la Raza's All That Jazz at Yoshi's Oakland

La Clinica de la Raza's 43rd Anniversary Celebration & Annual Benefit - All That Jazz - will be held on September 27 at Yoshi's Jazz Club and Japanese Restaurant, Jack London Square, 510 Embarcadero West, Oakland. Doors open at 6:30pm. September 30 - "Where's the Money?"

Are you concerned about the inequality of wealth? Increasing evidence documents the rapidly
widening gap. Do you wonder how this affects political and social tensions? The Lamorinda Great Decisions Discussion Group and League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley invite you to Join us as we review Thomas Piketty's research included in his New York Times best selling book, Capital in the Twenty-First Century on Tuesday, September 30 from 7pm-8:30pm at the Lafayette Library Community Hall. Presenter Ramsay Thomas, a retired AP History and AP Comparative Government and Economics teacher from the Acalanes High School District will summarize Piketty's core explanations, views, and insights. $5 donation requested to cover room expense.

September 30 - Sustainable Lafayette Fundraiser
 
On Tuesday, September 30, Patxi's Pizza will donate 10% of the entire day's sales to Sustainable Lafayette.
