Heirloom tomatoes, peaches, plums, peppers and sunshine!

Saturday
  August 22nd, 2015
9am to 1pm
Hello Market Shoppers!
It looks like the heat wave is over and we are looking forward to s string of delightfully sunny days and cool nights.  As summer draws to a close, this is a perfect time to enjoy cooking with all of the great summer produce in abundance at the market.  Birchrun Hills Farm shared a recipe for an heirloom tomato and blue cheese tart- yum!  You'll find it in our newsletter.

If you are a fruit lover (and who isn't?), this is your time of the year!  The market will be oozing with luscious plums, peaches, nectarines, apples, melons and more.

While we can't really imagine watching TV on lovely Saturday afternoon, we will have to make an exception this week.  Why?  Because our own Molly Johnson of Nomadic Pies will be on the Food Network Saturday at 3:30pm on "Great American Food Finds."  How lucky we are to have them come to our market!!!

Michael Kropp will perform on stage as we celebrate the bounty of summer.  Be sure to join us!

We know that parking can get tight in the municipal lot nearest the market and want you to know that there is free parking in the Borough Hall lot at 351 Bridge Street.  It is  very pleasant to walk the short section along the trail to the market from the lot!

See you at the Market!

HEIRLOOM TOMATO & BLUE CHEESE TART
adapted from epicurious
Ingredients

1 sheet frozen puff pastry - thawed according to package directions
6 ounces Birchrun Blue cheese - at room temperature (or 3 ounces blue cheese and 3 ounces goat cheese)
1/2 to 2 TBL whole milk or half-and-half
2 to 3 medium-size heirloom or other tomatoes
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp minced fresh thyme
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 400. On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry and pat into the bottom and sides of a
9-inch tart pan. Put it in the freezer to chill for 15 minutes.

2. In a small bowl, crumble the cheese and mash together with the milk or half-and-half, starting with 1/2

tablespoon, until the consistency is spreadable but still has some lumps of cheese.

3. Slice tomatoes about 1/4-inch thick. Arrange on paper towels and blot to remove most of juices.

4. Remove pastry from freezer. Bake until light golden brown, about 20 minutes. Cool about 15 minutes.

5. Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the bottom of the pastry. Cover with the tomato slices in a tightly
packed single layer. Sprinkle with the pepper and thyme and drizzle with the olive oil.

6. Bake until the crust is deep golden brown and the tomatoes have collapsed, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a
rack and let stand for 20-30 minutes before serving.

7. Remove the tart from the pan. Cut into wedges and serve warm!
