Deep Roots Valley Farm
Will and Kelly Smith

The grass is finally green and our hens have been enjoying the lush growth.  This is the time of year when the egg yolks start getting dark orange.  Be sure to stop by this week and pick some up (we have plenty of eggs)!

This will be our last market without chicken.  We start our processing season next week and will have our full selection available for May 2nd!  Our chicken CSA will also be making it's debut at the market that week!  Our bulk chicken special will be returning sometime later in the month.  If you are interested in our chicken CSA you can find more info here.

This year we are making some logistical changes.  We have outgrown our minivan and will begin operating out of freezers in an enclosed trailer.  We have also made the decision to sell our chicken frozen instead of fresh.  While we liked offering fresh chicken, we feel that frozen will allow us to offer a more consistent product as we will be able to schedule processing around the size of the chickens instead of the market schedule.  This switch will allow us to freeze all of our poultry immediately after packaging at the peak of it's quality and bring it to you in packages that are not soaking wet from ice.

After a lot of consideration, we have also decided to restructure our chicken prices.  Last year we sold out of white meat in early December, while we had drumsticks and wings into March.   This is the second year in a row that we saw this pattern.  In order to better utilize all parts of our chickens we are raising the prices on white meat and lowering prices on drumsticks and wings.  We hope this gives us more balanced sales and allows us to stock more white meat for the winter months.  Whole chickens, thighs and whole legs will all remain at the same prices.  Please know that we don't take these decisions lightly, we hate having to raise any prices.

Kelly and Will Smith are the fifth generation to farm Kelly's family's 150 acre farm located in Mohrsville, PA.   They raise poultry and beef on their beautiful pastures and are passionate about the environmental and health benefits of pasture raised beef, eggs, and chicken.
