One of my favorite things to do is head out for a day, stop at local wineries and taste! oh, and also purchase some wine. If that's on your "to do" list, stop by to pick up an insulated wine tote for your fall wine trail visits. We also will have pennants to decorate rooms, wallets and zipper coin pouches and much more made from those wonderful fabric sample pieces.

Last but not least, it's not to early to place an order for gift giving, don't wait until you wish you had. See you Saturday!hours of the day

Hello Market Shoppers!

The summer is flying by and these are the weeks to stock up on mouthwatering fruits and vegetables and preserve them.  What could be better than savoring a homemade bright red marinara sauce on a cold winter night?  If you've been wanting to try your hand at canning, we have a special treat for you.  There will be a very special canning demo on stage at from 9 to 10:30 where chef Don Stauffer will show us how to make canned sauce and salsa.   We'll also be giving out lots and lots of free canning supplies.  You can sign up for the demo here.

We are happy to say that Wild for Salmon is back from Alaska and they will be at the market with some of their 2014 catch- yum!

As part of our focus on health on the 3rd Saturday of each month, the Phoenixville Hospital will be conducting free blood pressure screenings.  Stop by the market table to have yours checked.

Parking update.  As most of you probably know, the parking in all of the municipal lots in Phoenixville now require paid parking ($.25 per 15 minutes) from 8am to 10pm Monday through Saturday.  Revenue from the parking fees will support our wonderful town.  We were worried that shoppers might spend an enjoyable morning at the market and return to their car only to find a most unwelcome ticket.  The borough does not plan to ticket Lot #4, the one closest to the market, on Saturday during market hours and we are very very grateful for their support!  That said, why not through quarters in the meter to help Phoenixville become even better than it already is!

See you at the Market!

RECIPES

Recipes courtesy of Chef Donald Stauffer

Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

In a large pot, heat the oil over a medium-high flame. Add the onions and garlic and saute until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes. Add the 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Saute until all the vegetables are soft, about 10 minutes. Add the tomatoes, wine and bay leaves, and simmer uncovered over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 1 hour. Remove and discard the bay leaves. Season the sauce with more salt and pepper, to taste.

Fresh Garden Salsa

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound tomatoes (about 2 medium), seeded and finely diced (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
  • 1 small fresh jalapeńo or serrano chile, finely chopped, including seeds, or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice, or more to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt, or 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Season to taste with additional chile, lime juice, and salt.

This salsa keeps in the refrigerator for up to one day. Before you serve it, stir it well and drain any excess liquid that has accumulated in the bowl.
