Hello Market Shoppers!

55 degrees and sunny!!! That's the forecast for this Saturday's Winter Market and we couldn't be happier!  Be sure to stop by the market between 10am and noon.  We'll have breads, baked goods, pork, buffalo, beef, veal, turkey, chicken, salmon, eggs, vegetables, cheeses, fresh pasta, hummus, coffee and tea, and more!

This week Michael Olesky, a farmers' market shopper who is also a nutritional coach, will have information about improving health and well being through diet and lifestyle decisions.

If you haven't come to one of our Winter Markets, please visit us!
We all set up in the upper portion under the bridge and make a cozy circle of incredibly delicious food.  Chances are that you will have a chance to chat with a neighbor or old friend, and you might even make some new acquaintances!

Forks Farm
John and Todd Hopkins

John and Todd Hopkins will be at the market with their grassfed beef!  They also raise pigs and chickens.  The picture to the right is of their Tamworth/Old Spot hogs that grazed on  grasses and forbs, gleaned acorns, hickory nuts and other tree seeds/nuts and helped John and Todd root out invasive species such as Multi-flora Rose and Japanese Stiltgrass.  They cultivate the understory of the woods preparing the land for establishment of perennial grasses which in turn support the grazing of their beef herd and free range laying chickens.  All while producing the most succulent and delicious chops, hams, bacon and roasts.  The hams and bacon are cured using an old fashion recipe, free of nitrates/nitrites using hickory for the flavor.

 Looking Ahead

Our next Winter Market will be on Saturday, March 8th!

We are hoping that RIdge Valley Farm will be here with the first Maple Syrup of 2014.  As you might imagine, they've had quite a time gathering sap from the maple trees- here's the latest from them-
"Jim finally collected some sap today.  Sap had flowed about a week and a half ago but then froze solid.  Hopefully it will run tomorrow.  We may even cook down some this weekend.  I would like to be able to come to this first market in March.  I will keep you posted.

Luckily, we did not lose any trees to ice, however it did stretch the tubing some, so a little tightening is in order."
