How To Use Facebook Effectively: use P.E.P.!

It is no secret that just about everyone has a Facebook these days. It is very important that you, as a BACCHUS student leader, use this resource wisely and professionally! Here are some tips on how to do that!

Posts: Make posts about your involvement with The BACCHUS Network! For example: What events you and your Peer Education group are doing, what's new in your area, shout out or congratulate a fellow peer educator or campus group, healthy lifestyle tips, fun facts (we all have so much knowledge, share it!), and of course pictures! We live in a visual world so use as many images as possible!

Events: Doing something AMAZING on your campus? Make an event for it! This is a great way to let people know about the great things you do for the well being of your fellow students. Invite all of your friends and encourage them to do the same! You can also share the event on your newsfeed or on other pages so don't be afraid to do that!

Professionalism: Remember that you, as students, are the face of The
BACCHUS Network. We hope that you embody the things we teach students every day and live healthy safe lives. Let this reflect on your profile! Be aware of how things could come across to people. A red cup in a picture seems very innocent but when you did a program on alcohol responsibility last week and then a fellow student sees you with that red cup, you can lose credibility.

Remember, Facebook is an amazing social networking tool, but only if used wisely.

How To Use Twitter Effectively:

As many of us tweet-aholics know, Twitter has blown up in the past few years- nearly everyone is on Twitter! Businesses and organizations have been capitalizing on the 140-character fragments to get their message across, and your peer group can do the same! Here are a few pointers for your organization's Twitter account:

1. Use as many images as possible. We are all apart of a visually-stimulated generation and students are looking for something that will catch their eye. Posting images will increase your followers and encourage people to retweet what you post. Make sure that your images are relevant to your program- are you doing some tabling? Take a picture of your table and goodies! Is there an event going on? Give a preview of the event on Twitter!

2. Get people involved, but don't be obnoxious. Tweeting at other organizations can be super beneficial in getting your name out on your campus. One great way of getting organizations involved is by tweeting at them and congratulating them on their achievements or recognizing how awesome they are! Not only does that give you a positive spotlight with your followers, but that organization is more likely to retweet the compliment and get you even more positive publicity. Be sure that you don't get obnoxious though- people don't want their newsfeed to be bombarded with pointless Twitter conversation.

3. Use a hashtag that people will actually be searching for. Using a hashtag that is popular or that people will be searching for will help you gain a wider audience (and, a lot of the time, you could make a humorous comment about something and gain some rapport with your followers).Using hashtags such as #healthtips or #health rather than #OurOrganizationIsAwesome or #JustinBieberIsTheCoolestEver would help you reach a breadth of followers. Also, if you are trying to brand a hashtag, make sure that it is short and easy to remember.

4. Consider not linking your Facebook and Twitter accounts. On Facebook, you should be posting a maximum of 3 times a day, otherwise your friends will start to get annoyed with you. Twitter, however, is a whole other ball game. Not only should you be posting more frequently to stay at the top of their newsfeed, but your messages should be short and to the point. If you have a post that runs longer and includes a link at the end of it, you are much more likely to lose your followers' interest. Make quick comments and use Facebook for those longer announcements.

The BACCHUS Network Needs Your Help!

Hello!

I have volunteered for The BACCHUS Network for 20 years, some of you may know me now as the onsite event planner for the BACCHUS national conference, General Assembly. Currently, I'm on a mission to raise $60,000 for BACCHUS by June 1, 2013. A big challenge but with your help, it's possible.

The BACCHUS Network
is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that relies on donations and grant money to operate. BACCHUS needs your help so it can continue to provide awesome support to student leaders and advisors on campuses across the country.

On behalf of the BACCHUS Fundraising Committee I launched a"10 BUCKS FOR BACCHUS" THE BACCHUS NETWORK, PEER EDUCATION AT ITS BEST campaign on Fundly.

In order to reach the fundraising goal, we need your support. You can donate $10 or even more - every bit helps!

Please Donate To Our Campaign and see pictures from General Assembly 2012.

Thanks,
Ann Doyle

PS - Please  to your friends, and family and share our page
on your social networks. You can tweet it, share it on Facebook, and even Pin it on Pinterest. Thank you!"
