Community Spotlight

For more than three decades, the purpose and mission of the Writers' League of Texas has been to provide a forum for information, support, and sharing among writers; to help writers improve their craft and market their skills.

Their annual Agents & Editors Conference (June 26-28) is one of the nation's premier conferences for writers at all stages of development. The conference brings together the top publishing industry professionals for a weekend focused on the craft of writing, the business of publishing, and building community.

Edgar Award-Winner, Meg Gardiner, will deliver some inspiring words during the Keynote Luncheon. Genre meetings will take place on Friday afternoon, facilitated by two experienced writers to help attendees share tips, talk through challenges, and hopefully make lasting connections with other writers. Corpus Christi native, Bret Anthony Johnston will share his insights, as both a writer and the head of an esteemed creative writing program, during the cocktail hour on Saturday.  On Sunday morning will begin with a talk followed by a guided meditation led by Austin favorite Spike Gillespie.

If you have questions about registering for the conference or becoming a member of the Writers' League, visit their website, writersleague.org, or call (512) 499-8914.

Our Town offers support for projects in two areas:

Arts Engagement, Cultural Planning, and Design Projects.
These projects represent the distinct character and quality of their communities. These projects require a partnership between a nonprofit organization and a local government entity, with one of the partners being a cultural organization. Matching grants range from $25,000 to $200,000.

Projects that Build Knowledge About Creative Placemaking.

These projects are available to arts and design service organizations, and industry or university organizations that provide technical assistance to those doing place-based work. Matching grants range from $25,000 to $100,000.
