Healing the Wounded Earth ceremony
Healing the Wounded Earth ceremony, led by Marla Ferguson (front), Palisade, Colorado. 2016 Global Earth Exchange

In our webinar, "Tips and Suggestions for Your Global Earth Exchange," we talked about how the practice of making a spontaneous gift of beauty for a wounded place is a ceremony... and how that ceremony turns out not only to be about the place but is something deeply personal for ourselves as well. For her Global Earth Exchange this year, Marla Ferguson of Palisade, Colorado and her friends created this simple but meaningful ceremony that brought home the point that the places we love remain "attached" to us, no matter what happens to them. Marla, a quilter who used the tools of her art for the ceremony, writes:
Eight Kindred Spirits gathered at the edge of the Colorado River to honor all of the wounded places in the Earth. We each put a pin into a globe-shaped pin cushion when we talked about the wound that was most important to us. We then removed the pins and used them to attach a fabric brooch with hearts and earth symbols on it to our shirts. We strummed a wooden frog during our ceremony to bring about cleansing and purification. We then made a RadJoy Bird out of natural items and trash from the bank of the river. It was a very healing ceremony!
