My four-year old grandson received a belated birthday present this past week-end. The gift, a container of plastic soldiers, was happily shared with my husband. They spent a considerable amount of time on the living room floor strategizing their battle plans ... the good guys against the bad guys. Of course, the good guys were victorious over the bad guys in each and every battle.
Before going to sleep after their extended PLAY time, I told my grandson that I loved him. He responded with, "I love you, GG, and I love Jesus too BECAUSE He loves me and helps me to defeat the bad guys!"
These insightful words from a four-year old truly captures what God is telling us in today's scripture ... we are assured of VICTORY when we admit our love for Him, when we put our trust in Him to defeat our foes. We have a choice in every situation that we face --- we can TRY to fight the bad guys on our own, OR we can know with all confidence that our battles are the Lord's battles.
For many of us, to totally surrender our foes to the Lord and THEN to rest in His ability to make them flee IS difficult. Our enemies, our situations, can be formidable ... they can truly appear to be the BAD GUYS threatening to destroy us.
IF you are trying to overtake your enemy, realize that we were not designed to fight our own battles. We were created to rely on our Creator ... to have Him fight our battles. My challenge to you is to lay your struggles at His feet believing that He HAS victory over whatever circumstances you are facing AND that your enemies will be DEFEATED and will FLEE, not in ONE direction but in SEVEN!
Dear Lord, Thank You for Your promise to defeat my enemies and to give me victory. Help me to walk boldly and confidently through my circumstances with full assurance that my bad guys have already been defeated by You.
I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: Do you truly believe as my four-year old grandson believes that God will defeat your foes?
