I am sure many of you have seen today's verse on plaques, key chains, bookmarks, mugs, bible covers, etc. I also feel certain that you would completely agree that your desire for you and your family IS to serve the Lord. I know that one of my prayers is for my family to always do the work of the Lord.
However, for many around the world, this is difficult. Although these individuals long to serve God, they are not allowed to openly do so. Sadly, over 100 million Christians worldwide suffer interrogation, arrest and even death for their faith in Jesus Christ with millions more facing discrimination and alienation. This is a sobering thought when we consider how blessed we are in our country to freely serve Him.
Interestingly, many Christians do not know how to serve the Lord OR in some cases, do not realize, that they ARE already serving Him. Romans 12:6-8 provides clear examples of how God has equipped us to serve Him ---"We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully."
God EXPECTS you to use the gifts that He has so generously given to all of us, and we are told that ONE DAY we will have to give account for what we have done with these gifts. Our life goal should be to hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
My challenge to you today is to take a few moments to take a serious look at your progress in this area. Are you serving the Lord to the best of your ability? Are you taking advantage of the opportunities He gives You?
Dear Lord, Forgive me for those times that I have failed to serve You. I thank You for all of the opportunities that You are making available to me to serve others, and I commit myself today to serve You with a GLAD heart.
I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: Which gifts (prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leading, showing mercy) do you think God has given to you?
