After discovering yesterday afternoon that I had forgotten an important ingredient for the dish I was preparing, I had to go back to the grocery store. But ... as I was driving off, I realized that my car's gas light was on.
My first thought was, "CAN I MAKE IT to the gas station without running out of gas???" After managing to get to a local convenience store without incident and tanking up my car, I calculated that I was actually driving around with less than a gallon of gas!
On my way home, I began to reflect on how we often do the same thing in our lives. We run on empty ... we try desperately to meet all of our daily demands ... we try to see how far we can get in our own strength. We wonder if we can even make it through the day.
Just as I failed to stop at a gas station to refuel my car, we overlook God's offer in today's scripture to quench our thirst ... to refuel our soul. Sadly, we think that we are too busy to read our Bibles, to pray, to spend time with our Creator. We hobble along on fumes --- crippled by the limits of our strength rather than running our races with a full tank of His goodness and mercy, His guidance and direction, His peace and love!
My challenge to you today is to take the time to tank up on His Word
each day. Although God's fuel doesn't cost a penny, it is designed to be the catalyst that transports us to the finish line of ALL that He has planned for our lives. All we need to do is ask, and He will completely fill our tanks to the overflowing.
Dear Lord, Thank You for always being there when I am weak ... when I am thirsty ... when I am running on empty. Help me to make time for You each and everyday. I know that my strength can be found in Your presence.
I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: C. S. Lewis wrote: God designed the human race to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn. Are you allowing God to regularly fuel your spirit?
