 Are We the Real Thing?

Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."

 Holding Heart

A few years ago, I was able to acquire a recipe for one of the best cake frostings ever! Of course, I cannot reveal my source OR the recipe, but I would be willing to whip up a batch of the delectable frosting if you would like to sample it!

My only problem with this recipe is that it requires PURE almond extract, and my granddaughter is allergic to nuts. Therefore, I have to use IMITATION almond extract when I know that she will be partaking of the frosting.

Now, the major difference between pure and imitation almond extract is that the imitation one contains synthetic chemicals that mimic the almond flavor resulting in a reduced cost. Honestly, it is very difficult to taste the difference between frosting made with pure or imitation almond extract. I have never had anyone voice a complaint, and it sure is a lot cheaper to make!

However, as today's verse reveals, there is a HUGE difference in a pure and an impure heart - a difference that can be easily detected by God. In fact, there is such a difference that He states ONLY the pure-hearted individual will have the privilege of seeing Him.

How can God tell the difference between the two? He can determine whether or not our hearts are pure or impure by our thoughts and actions. Proverbs 4:23 reveals "It is out of the heart that sin and obedience, rebellion and submission, hatred and love can all come."

If our hearts are filled with bitterness or envy or insincerity, our thoughts and actions will reflect those same conditions. Consequently, there is no room for God to move mightily in our lives and to fulfill His plans for each of us IF our hearts are so cluttered with sin.

My challenge to you today is make Psalm 51:10-11 the cry of your heart - "God, create a pure heart in me!" Let Him know - through your thoughts and actions - that you desire to be the REAL thing..... pure-hearted not an imitator of what is true and good!

Dear Lord, I ask that You search my heart and cleanse me if I am falling short of Your glory. Guard my heart, and help me stay pure for You because I truly long to see Your face one day!

I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
