Never Satisfied
Proverbs 1:32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.
My husband celebrated his birthday yesterday, and I thought this year would be different. You see, every year on his birthday, there is a small part of him that cannot truly enjoy the entire day. Each year, I ask him why. His answer is always the same. He feels as if he hasn't yet accomplished enough in his life.
This answer didn't JUST surface in the last couple of years. He has been saying this to his parents since he was a TEENAGER!
I thought after launching such an amazing church this year and expecting our second son, surely, he would be satisfied. Apparently, I was wrong! He said that although this year HAS been phenomenal, his accomplishments will NEVER be enough.
This may sound like a miserable attitude, but I think President Jimmy Carter articulated my husband's feelings accurately when he once said, "I hate to see complacency prevail in our lives when it's so directly contrary to the teaching of Christ."
Sure, my husband enjoyed his birthday. It was filled with family, love and ice cream! However, his passion for Christ causes him to always desire to do more.
He often says to me that as long as we have breath, we have purpose. We should never be satisfied with what we have done. Unfortunately, many people are bound by the good things that they have done in their lives. They reflect upon their lives with thoughts of having "arrived"... having "achieved enough".
God wants to take your successes and increase them for His glory. I challenge you today to never settle in your past successes but push for MORE... more of His purpose, more of His presence, more of His power. Remember as long as you have breath ... you have purpose!
Dear Lord, Give me FRESH vision each and every day so that I can accomplish ALL that You have called me to.
I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.
Reflection: Have I become complacent in my walk with The Lord and His purpose for my life?
