Something's Missing

Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

For as long as I can remember, I've felt like I didn't quite "fit in." I've had friends, I've been involved in lots of groups and organizations, had different kinds of jobs etc, but something has always felt a little "off." I never felt like I really belonged anywhere.

People seem to not believe me or know what I'm talking about when I describe myself as "awkward." OR maybe they do, and they are just being nice --- I'm not sure! Either way, there just always seemed to be something that was not quite right.

I'm currently reading a book by Lisa TerKeurst called The Bathtub is Overflowing But I Feel Drained. She talks about something in this book that I've learned and embraced. She says "We have an indwelling sense of there being more to life than just the things of this earth. Deep down, we know that eternity is part of our makeup. God has placed within us a deep need for Him. I have heard it said that we all have a 'God-shaped hole' in our hearts that nothing else can fill." She goes on to say "We must also recognize the longings in our heart as a tug toward eternity, not a sign that our lives here are anything less than blessed."

Feeling like something's just not right? Like something's missing? There IS! It's God! He's created us with a longing and thirst that only He can quench. We weren't made for this earth, but for eternity with Him!

I challenge you to recognize the next time you are feeling dissatisfied with this life that .... God created you for a special purpose! Ask Him to fill the places that only He can fill. Living a life apart from Him will never feel complete.

Dear Lord, Forgive me for trying to fill the voids in my life with anything other than You. I understand that You are the One that can complete my life and make me whole.

I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.

Reflection: Do you have any empty places in your life that needs to be filled by God?
