A Very Special Egg

Psalms 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

My son had an intense obsession with Humpty Dumpty. Not like in an "oh, he likes him a lot" way .... but in a "he's seen every YouTube video in every language hundreds of times and can spot him instantly in the background of any book or movie and every conversation can somehow loop back to this broken egg" way.

His fourth birthday party was Humpty Dumpty themed, and his biggest request was a Humpty piņata, which didn't exist. He also requested a walking talking Humpty robot but that was DEFINITELY not happening! I found an Easter egg shaped one, painted it, added arms, legs and a face to become his beloved character. After the party, he insisted on keeping the broken piņata and even tried to wear it as a costume. Can you picture the intensity a little better now?

Although he was totally fascinated with Humpty Dumpty, the ending of the story was so unsettling to him.  Then, after the hundred millionth time hearing the traditional Humpty song, we found a song by Kristian Binion called "Pieces" which he instantly loved - from the beginning to the end!

The lyrics start off with "I have climbed up a great big wall" and goes on to say "I've taken a great great fall. All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put me together again. But You are the great King and I am Your man. Won't You put me together again? ... Cause I hear the broken can be made new, I hear the broken are fixed in You....I didn't know that the fall was this far, I've tumbled down with a broken heart. My broken pieces should be thrown away, but You are able to make this save."

I was so excited to be able to turn the sad-ending story that he adored into a lesson about how God can fix what no one else can. No matter what state we may be in, God has the power to heal, redeem and restore us. What looks hopeless to the world is NEVER hopeless to Him!

I challenge you to stop looking at situations from the point of view of the king's horses and men and start looking at them from the view of the real King, our Heavenly Father. He can do the impossible!

Dear Lord, Thank You  for fixing the broken mess that I am.  I trust in You and You alone to put me back together.  You are my Comforter and my Savior.

I thank You, my Jesus, for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life.

Reflection:  Are you trusting in God, Your King, to put you back together again ... no matter what you are facing?
