Be a Game Changer
Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Since I am a guy, I can admit that guys do some pretty dumb things at times! For example, it amazes me that out of all of the innovative ideas that have been passed down from generation to generation one thing that has lasted through the years has been the game - punch for punch ... something that most likely started in the cave days! Two men or boys going back and forth punching one another in the arm as hard as they can until one of them calls it quits! Not sure why, but we apparently get something out of this exchange of PAIN!!!
Sadly, isn't that the way we argue? We flare our nostrils, clinch our fists and let the other person have it! We tell ourselves, "I really gave him or her a piece of my mind!" Justified or not...how has that worked for you?
Today's scripture states that we possess the power to dictate the outcome of our confrontations - to turn away from hostility by remaining calm! Instead of letting someone have a piece of your mind in a tense situation, say something such as, "I was wrong for that, and I'm so sorry for hurting you! Can you forgive me?"
From personal experience, you will render this person speechless! It's in that moment God's Word truly rings true because it is actually put into ACTION! As difficult as it may seem, I encourage you to remain calm the next time you find yourself in a confrontation! Let your pride down and show love ... show Jesus!
Dear Lord, I thank You for the love letter that You wrote just for me! You have provided so many resolutions for the struggles and challenges that I face! Help me to recall Your Word and to put it into action when I'm tempted to lose my cool ... lose my way.
I thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and that God raised You from the grave so that I can have eternal life. In the Name of Jesus I pray, Amen!
Reflection: Is remaining calm in a confrontation something you need help from the Holy Spirit to accomplish?
