But...

Colossians 4:2 "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving."

I have a small kitchen. Not small like "yeah, it'd be nice to have some extra shelf space" small, but small like "if you step in this kitchen while I'm in here there won't be enough oxygen for both of us and one of us may die" small.

It works and it's functional, but it's small. Right now it seems like things keep falling apart. My toddler broke one of the drawers so its contents are piled somewhere else. An electrical outlet decided it wanted to celebrate the fourth of July early and gave us a fireworks show. The sink is leaking on both sides so everything I usually store under there has to find another home.

All at once, in this tiny area, it seems like everything is going wrong. None of these things REALLY stop the function of the kitchen but they frustrate me enough to just avoid the room altogether.

This reminds me of how I can be with my prayer life. The Bible says for us to CONTINUE in prayer, steadfastly. God wants us to be CONSISTANT in talking to Him, to do it regardless of what's going on around us. He WANTS to hear from us throughout our day, whether we're feeling happy, frustrated or slightly electrocuted.

So many times things come up that prevent us from having that ongoing communication with Him, but what are these things really? I can blame all the mishaps in my kitchen for me not being able to cook dinner, but it's just an excuse. My stove works just like my mouth, brain and heart work, it's just a bit cluttered.

I challenge you to work through some of the excuses you've made to put off spending time with God.

Thank you God for loving me. Help me to put aside all of the chaos I experience every day and remind me that You want to hear from me. I know that I can come to You all day, every day and You will hear me.

Thank You Jesus for dying for me. I believe that You are Lord and God raised You from the dead so I can have eternal life.

Reflection: Are you treating inconveniences as roadblocks when it comes to talking to God?
